Question about 1995 Mercury Mystique

1995 MErcury Mystique overheating

I just boight a 95 mystique and we noticed the engine gauge in the red area. We replaced the thermostat and had thhe ssame problem.
Make a long story shortm we've had to rig it so that the fan is constantly running becaused it wont cut on itself and the engine will overheat.
I looked it up, and there was a recall but we are over the allowed mileage to take it in,
Anyone have any advice on fixing it, or possibly even costs on fixing it.
We need reliable transportation and this car was our last hope.
Please help in any way possible.

Recalls never expire. The only recall that had anything to do with the cooling system was 00S44 for the cooling fan bearing seizing which you stated that you had cooling fan is working so it does not sound like your problem. You can check your vehicle for recalls at this site http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservice/en/default?page=genuineService. Just look down the left side task bar and pick recalls and insert your VIN number.

What sounds like it might be your problem may be the water pump itself. These had plastic impeller blades on the pump and they have probably seperated from the pump shaft.

Its possible you had some air pockets in the cooling system from replacing the thermostat.
I would check the radiator cold from time to time to make sure it is full.

95 mercury mystique gas gauge is broken

Not really.
The float in the tank is probably stuck or the resistor is faulty.
The sending unit has a float much like a toilet and as the float moves up the resistance to ground for the gauge on the dash is less.
Chances are the tank would have to be removed and the sending unit replaced.
If the gauge never moved off of E it could be a wiring problem or the gauge on the dash too.

I have a 95 mercury mystique and it starts but but

THE ENGINES THROTTLE BODY HAS A TPS WICH IS CALLED A THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR

It has a built in reostat inside of it which can get a flat spot anywhere in its circuit explaining why your car hesitates or sounds like it is ready to stall out
'
I would replace it and have the voltage set at 1.5 volts when set at the idle position
Then it should run fine again

Smelled mild burning, lost antifreeze - engine temp Hot. I looked under car and noticed a serverly frayed Belt - NOT the big surpentine belt - another small belt on the driver's side. 1999 Mercury Mystique...

For the 1999 Mercury Mystique Water Pump Belt on 2.5L V6 Engine:

Probable Causes: Belt: worn out, started slipping. Overheating caused by failure of Belt. Lost antifreeze: caused by failure of belt, not turning Water Pump Pulley, not circulating anitfreeze, which resulted in overheating.

Click on the following free direct Link. It has the Serpentine & Drive Belt Diagrams and Tensioners for your 2.5L Engine.
Scroll down the Page (about 1/3rd down) to Diagram #G99H08189, it shows the specific Water Pump Belt.
Note the Tensioner.
