Check the battery. If the battery is weak all you will hear is the starter soliniod clicking. Make sure that all of the cables have good clean tight connections.
Most Auto parts stores can test your battery to see what shape it is in.

I would check that the battery is fully charged, or replace it, batteries don't last for ever, usually need to be changed very 3 years.
Check all of the cables from the battery to the start and alternator to ensure that there is no rub marks on them were they maybe grounding to the frame, also look for bubbles that maybe forming under the cable coating. If you notice any of these replace the cable also ensure that all connection are tight and clean.

If you turn the ignition switch to START and hear a relay click but do not hear the starter run, chances are the starter has failed. I have had that experience with a Ford

I am putting refrigerant in my 05 freestar van. which port do i put it in?

The low side port. If you have the proper quick connect charging hose, it will only fit the low side fitting. The high side fitting is larger & wont fit the quick connect fitting on the hose.

2005 Ford Freestar Want start sometimes.

A late reply; I'm sure you have found the problem by now-
It sounds as if the battery (old and new) are not receiving sufficient charge.
Check the drive belt tension and add a cheap digital multimeter to your 'tools.'  These can be had for well under $20 US and you can then check across the battery terminals to see if the charge voltage is between ~ 13-14.3 volts at an idle. In no case should it be lower than 13 volts with the engine running since the nominal battery voltage is 12.6 volts when fully charged.
You may have a separate regulator that is ill.
