Remove horn airbag toyota avensis

Avensis 2004 (2003-2007 model)
Removed as there was something rolling around inside the steering wheel, causing the horn to randomly activate

Unit has airbag, I didn't fancy the idea of the unit going off so I disconnected the battery as a precaution

Loosen the two "torx" screws on either side of the steering wheel (on sides next to the stereo controls on one side and blank/cellphone controls on the other side) , they will loosen, but not completely come out as they are held in by a plastic "cage".

Use a magnet to 'hold' one of the torx screws out as far as possible, whilst slowly wiggling the centre of the steering wheel out on that side (it won't completely remove), repeat the same on the other side, the centre should now come out (it's a firm fit), but note that the removed piece is still connected via cables (for the airbag), I did not need to remove these to perform my repair, so I am unsure as to what would be required to 'reset' airbag (if anything) once these are disconnected.

The torx screws need to be located in the plastic cages (on the recess on the Torx screw head) to hold them in place whilst refitting the centre of the steering wheel.

Leaky Valve Cover

the only "special" tool you would need is a set of torx sockets. the intake manifold is fairly self explanitory to remove, the bolts are in the center and they require a torx socket to be removed, The EGR pipes need two big wrenches (I believe a 1 1/2", and a 1") and lots of penetrating spray oil. Depending on your mechanical abilities, you could spend a good part of a weekend on it... Espically the thermostat housing! Its a tricky fit, and the plastic cant handle too many mistakes! If you decide to take it on, you should replace the intake gaskets, (they commonly leak, and aren't much $) make sure you have the right thermostat housing, (There should be only one sensor port on it, Sport-Trac's look identical but have two sensor port holes) a coolant bypass hose, (short hose under the housing) and obviously the coolant and the valve cover gaskets. It is a lot of work, but except for the EGR tube removal, and fitting the thermostat housing, it really isin't too bad.

What size torx is needed to remove the front brake caliper on a 2005 dodge durango

Hi,
It requires a special size that comes as a socket type from the parts store. I believe is is a TORX 45. But, usually you can fit and allen wrench into the torx hole to remove them. I have used 5/16",3/8",8mm and 9mm allens to do the job on various vehicles and it worked out great.
Hope that helps!...Mike

How to install part sw5928 cruise control switch to a 1998 ford ranger

1 Open the hood and loosen the clamp bolt on the negative battery cable with an adjustable wrench turned in a counterclockwise direction. Pull the cable straight up and off of the terminal and push it aside. Wait 15 minutes, before continuing this procedure, to allow the air bag circuitry to deactivate.
2 Pry the two plastic screw covers from the rear of the steering wheel spokes in the passenger compartment with a flat blade screwdriver. Remove the two screws revealed after removing the covers with an 8 mm socket attached to a ¼-inch drive ratchet wrench turned in a counterclockwise direction.
3 Lift the horn pad straight up from the top of the steering wheel. Carefully pull the air bag wiring harness connector from the bottom of the horn pad. Set the horn pad aside.
4 Remove the two screws holding each cruise control switch (there are two switches, one on each side of the steering wheel) with a Torx screwdriver turned in a counterclockwise direction. Lift up on the switch and pull the wiring connector apart with your thumb and forefinger. Repeat this action for both switches. Remove the switches from the steering wheel.
5 Install the new switches (make sure the "On/Off" switch is on the right-hand side) onto the steering wheel using the original mounting holes. Tighten the holding screws with a Torx screwdriver turned in a clockwise direction.
6 Push the air bag wiring connector back into the bottom of the horn pad until it is fully seated. Place the horn pad into position on the steering wheel. Tighten the holding screws from the back of the steering wheel with an 8 mm socket and ratchet. Push the two screw covers into the back of the steering wheel until they snap into place.
7 Place the negative battery cable back onto the terminal and tighten the clamp nut in a clockwise direction with an adjustable wrench. Close the hood.

How to remove exploded airbag from a 2002 alero

To remove the passenger air bag, unplug YELLOW connecter in fuse panel on right end of dash. Remove glove box. Remove TWO 10mm bolts that hold air bag to dash brace and lift out. The drivers bag is held in with TWO T-30 torx. Remove the steering column cover. Locate the two holes in the back of the wheel. remove 2 torx. Unplug Yellow connecter, black ground wire and red horn wire. The bag is then free from the column.
