Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck 2WD
My daughter left her lights on on her truck (2001 Dodge PU), so I had to jump it off to start it. It would not start without giving it gas and it wouldn't stay running without giving it gas. Before, it would always start without giving it gas and would run fine. Could we have done something by jumping it off?
When the battery goes dead it looses its memory on engine settings like idle speed.. two things you can do first one is to clean the throttle bore with carb cleaner... the other is to start with foot on gas and slowly bring it back to idle... it will pick up the idle air position to keep itself running if you do it slowly... everything happens over time so as the throttle gets dirty the computer makes these adjustment on its own and when the battery dies it starts out basicly at different percentage of idle control tht it really needs because of the carbon buildup on the throttle plates
