Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck 2WD

1 Answer

Truck will not stay running without giving gas after a jump off

My daughter left her lights on on her truck (2001 Dodge PU), so I had to jump it off to start it. It would not start without giving it gas and it wouldn't stay running without giving it gas. Before, it would always start without giving it gas and would run fine. Could we have done something by jumping it off?

When the battery goes dead it looses its memory on engine settings like idle speed.. two things you can do first one is to clean the throttle bore with carb cleaner... the other is to start with foot on gas and slowly bring it back to idle... it will pick up the idle air position to keep itself running if you do it slowly... everything happens over time so as the throttle gets dirty the computer makes these adjustment on its own and when the battery dies it starts out basicly at different percentage of idle control tht it really needs because of the carbon buildup on the throttle plates

2001 dodge 1500 V-6 will start run for alittle bit then won't idle unless you keep gas petel depressed?

This sounds like you have a sticky EGR valve. When it\'s idling rough, try tapping on it with an object such as the butt-end of a screwdriver and see if it suddenly smooths out. If so, you\'ve found your problem and you should consider changing the valve assembly. I hope this helps! :)

2001 durango starts but runs poorly and backfires wont stay runing without foot on gas

This could be many things, start by retrieving any codes the emission system may have thrown, may need a tune up, may have jumped timing, may have a head gasket blown.

I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 4x4 pu and have a p0441 code. i replaced the fuel cap but still no results.

On a Dodge a lot of times this light comes on because you are putting gas in the car or truck with it running, have someone with a OBD2 box clear the code and try this, when you open the gas cap with it running it sucks air and sets off the light due to a purge in the system. I hope this helps

Stalls will not stay running after wormming up

Throttle position senser might be going bad. I had in the same problem in my truck. It wouldn't stay running unless I had my foot on the gas and as soon as I let off, it would die. Try it. The sensers are relatively cheap at Auto Zone or somewhere similar. Around 30 bucks.
