Question about 1997 Ford Taurus

Codes p0411,p0305 1997 for taurus, Iknow what the codes mean, but what is the fix? Thankyou

    The engine runs fine in park, rough in gear, stumbles when accellerating.

    p0411, where is the air injection pump located? If this is the secondary, where is the primary? Why is the code so vague about possible fixes? The guy at Advanced Auto did'nt have a clue, and said it could be many different things. I am trying to avoid taking it in, but may have no choice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    p0305, I changed the plugs and seem to have fixed the rough idling and stumbling, but I still have the check engine light. Do I have to reset the code? If so, how?

    Unlucky as usual, drove the car for about 10 miles and all the bad stuff returned. Check engine light blinks, and the motor sputters just as before. Off to the garage we go! S.O.L. once again! Thanks for all your help!!

    Where would I get this done? Also, where is the fuel filter located? I was told to check the inside of distributor for corrosion. I was expecting the old round cap that I could remove and check, but this vehicle must be new enough to have a different type!? I'm afraid I just don't know enough about engines and how they work to help myself. You have been a great help, and I appreciate all your time and knowledge!! Thank you!

    Sorry! Yes it's 3.0L. This is my son's car, who is unemployed, so I'm trying to save as much as possible. I do have a good repair shop I deal with, and I will have to take it in. We have had the car for about 1 1/2 years, and it's starting to "nickel and dime" us to the point of trading up. I'll keep you posted on what the mechanic says. Thanks

Check your air injection pump for a possile leak, or crack in the actual hose running from it. If it's leaking, it causes a reduction in flow to catalytic converter, thus sets that trouble code. As far as code 305 goes, is engine running rough, or have a miss?

    Yes, well code PO305 indicates a misfire in cylinder # 5 , so the obvious question is, how's the spark plug look, and how old are the plugs & wires? This is a 3.0L -w/EFI, I take it?

    Yours may, or may not have the pump, seems every year they change something around,but here's a link for you to look for your engine etc, and all the emission system parts involved. Yes, you may have to have it put on scan tool, to activate each one of the components to find the one that is faulty unfortunately. That's the reason for checking around in your area for a garage with a reputation for good service from knowledgable mechanics, and it may even end up at a Ford dealer. Sometimes the dealership has been faced with same problem numerous times, and know right where to look soon into diagnosis. Only other thing I can suggest is to ask the busiest local autoparts place which part, if any of the emissions, they sell the most of, which may or may not point you in the right direction.     I expect any local auto repair shop that you trust can do both, in less than an hour, if they quote you more than that, go elsewhere. Paying an hours labor now, might just ease your headache. By the way, I don't see in replies where you confirmed it is a 3.0L engine?

What does the codes mean po1296 po411 po304

The first fault code do you mean p1296 if so that is a cooling system malfunction you will need to check the temperature sensor.

The fault code p0411 is a Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected

And the p0304 fault code is a misfire detected on cylinder 4 possibly a coil pack maybe a plug

2002 VW Passat GLS 1.8T throwing two codes: P0171 and P0411. No noticeable loss in performance. Can I fix this myself?

System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Check the Mass Air Flow unit. Yes it could be a vaccume leak.

My 97 Taurus has code P0411. What do I need to do to fix this problem? The check engine light keeps coming on and it needs smog.

that code indicates that there is a air pump to decrease the amount of harmful fumes thru the exhust system the air pump maybe failing causing the code
