Question about 1996 Toyota RAV4
1997 Toyota Rav4 in excellent condition up to Dec.2008. While engine is on and vehicle is slowing down or has stopped suddenly the engine would cut of. The radio and the light could still be turned on.
On starting the engine it would flutter and take about 10 to 15 mins to turn on again. Sometimes it would take up to 30 mins. The Spark plugs were changed in Oct 2008 (5 month ago) and then again on Feb.2009 (2 wks ago) on the recommendation of a Mechanic.
Today we installed new platinum sparks plygs recommended by the auto shop salesperson,
We noticed debris around two of the extensions connected to the spark

misfires can be lean/rich conditions at 1 cylinder only ..or spark or mechanical issue...sooo....compression/leakdown test to determine health of mechanical rotating parts ...valves pistons timing......timing belt......vacuum leak at intake manifold affecting mostly one cylinder...or no/intermittent spark to one area...coil/igintor wire plug ..read plugs... the misfiring cylinder will be different looking

Ok, it could be a few things, 1. bad break caliper. 2. if you have ceramic breaks, it could be a cracked brake pad, and if they are not ceramic they can still be cracked. 3. if you drive a lot then it could be that you need new breaks again.. 4. also have your back breaks checked along with the front ones..

Go to the dealer and get the recommended plugs. The litttle boxes are actually coil packs; carefully disconnect electrical connector, remove bolt(s), twist coil pack left and right and pull it off the plug. Unscrew plug with proper socket then remove. You may need a piece of vacuum hose to install the new ones. Put hose snugly over the plug and carefully start to thread it in. Also put on a little anti sieze compound on the plug's threading before installation. Ask for any other help.
