2003 GMC yukon xl 5.3 flex fuel. This problem has been recurring off and on for about 2 years. After a long drive in warm weather it will just stall. This has on 3 occasions happened at freeway speeds. It happens without warning, just dies. After a brief period (1 minute to 30 minutes) it will restart and continue. The first time this occurred around 2 years ago it did not reoccur for one year. On this 2nd occasion it died at freeway speed. I pulled off road, sat checking gauges for about a minute (all ok) and restarted it. It then drove for about 60 miles, died again at about 30mph, restarted after about 5 minutes, died again about 15 minutes later, restarted in 10 minutes, drove about 2 miles to destination. Sat all night and had no further problems until yesterday. On a trip, warm day for the season, it died after about an hour, restarted after about 20 minutes. Drove another 50 miles, died again and would not restart. Actually I ran battery down trying to start it/flashers etc since I was in a moving lane at the time. Towed home. Restarted today with no problem. Drove around off and on all day with no problems. Mechanic says cant reproduce problem, so......

Engine light comes on occasionally "oxygen sensor left bank".

Any ideas? How do you diagnose this type of problem? Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 2003 GMC Yukon. The engine would just shut off at random times? Get your fuel injectors cleared. I guarantee that is the problem. It cost like 150 dollars. I thought it was an eletrical problem. But, it was just clogged fuel injectors. If that is not the problem make sure you take it to a reputable GMC/Chevy dealer. They have all the proper diagonstoic equipment to pinpoint your problems. Hope that helps!

I've had the same problem. The other night, it happened when we turned on the AC. Wondering if it's some sort of sensor between the engine and the AC. Both times I've stalled at highway speeds, it's been hot and I've had the AC on. Both times I've taken it to have a diagnostic run, and they say nothing's wrong. I'm going to try and reproduce it this weekend, on the way back to the mechanic's shop. It's getting hot and I'm worried about using the AC.

Check the fuel cap!! If the vacuum relief is not working it can impede the fuel flow and cause the engine to shut down or not restart after a stop. Waiting usually gives things a chance to stabalize and the engine will restsrt. When this happens again try loosening the cap and see if the engine will restart.....If it restarts immediately, REPLACE the fuel cap..Do Not leave it loose because this will cause other problems. If it is not the fuel cap the problem may be the filter, the fuel pump, or aome other fuel system malfunction.

Check to see if the power steering pump is still turning. If you have a broken drive belt (serpentine belt or "fan" belt), and the pump doesn't turn, you have no power assist. If the pump is still turning, check the fluid level in the reservoir.

SOURCE: I would like to change the fuel filter on my 2002

The location is on the driver side frame rail on the inside a few feet from the fuel tank forward. You need remove the negative terminal from the battery then open the gas cap to relieve the pressure then loosen the filter ie.open end wench or crecent wrench discard filter make sure the flow indicator is going the correct way away from tank. Tighten new filter connect, battery terminal, prime fuel lines by switching the key forward a few times then start. Good Luck

Do you have a picture of a 2002 gmc yukon fuel filter?

This particular filter is just an example of the fuel filter for an '02 GMC Yukon XL. The link I've provided is specifically for regular unleaded fuel. If your Yukon is a "Flex Fuel" (can use either unleaded or E85 gasoline) the specific filter/part number will be different. Otherwise the filter itself looks exactly the same. And if you're not certain, the filter should be located along the driver side inner frame rail...below the driver's seat.
Good luck

While drivingoil pressure is at 40. after half hour of highway driving oil pressure drops to 0 or below. i stop and restart oil pressure comes back. ideas?

Could be the Oil Pressure Sending Unit. I do recall GMC having issues with the instrument cluster on 2003's. Try slapping the dash when the gage reads zero.

What's your problem? 2000 Yukon XL Yukon died while driving down the highway like it ran out of fuel. Had 1/4 tank. No fuel pressure.

You'll need to check the circuit from the fuel pump relay back to the pump. The computer grounds the relay.
If the pump is running the filter could be clogged.

How do I remove a fuel pump on a 2002gmc yukon xl

Hi,
Step by step with illustrations located here:
http://www.justanswer.com/chevy/1hhfc-instructions-replace-fuel-pump-2002-gmc-yukon-xl.html
The question was on a flex fuel, but the instructions are for standard fuel. Flex may be slightly different. Fuel pump / sending unit / strainer comes assembled for quick change at around $120.
You will need to remove the gas tank from the vehicle for replacement....Mike

We are contemplating buying a 2010 yukon xl 4WD 1500 series and just heard from a friend they had problems with their motor because of the "flex fuel" option? Have there been a lot of motor...

If ethanol has ever been used in their vehicle after using gasoline, it gums up engine and fuel system. You have to use gas for these vehicles even though they have the flex fuel option because of this because it'll drag the vehicle's perfomance down.

Fuel reset button on 2002 yukon

The reset button for any instrument display tallies ( fuel consumption, average, trip miles, etc ) is located on the sterring wheel. It should be the button on the lower right with the down and back arrow printed on it. Once you display the item you want to reset, hold this button for a few seconds and the display should reset to 0.

Good Luck
