I believe distributor goes in one way and timing is electronically controlled by power train control module

2000 dodge caravan engine sputters and died. Restarted after a few tries and just sputters and wont rev

So many possibilities. Fuel? When was the last time you refueled? Dirty fuel filter, problem in distributor. This vehicle has a bad history for the fuel system. Had one that was on it's 8TH throttle body/carb. Someone could've put a potato in the exhaust pipe. Just saying, so many possibities.

Dodge caravan dead

It kind of sounds like a distributor that has twisted in the hole. But many of these Dodge engines no longer have distributors.

If you do have one though, check the timing.

If no distributor, but you do have a timing belt, check to see if it has skipped a few teeth.

Check the compression. If the camshaft (if only one) or one of the camshafts (if more than one) has slipped, there will be quite a shift in compression from the specification.

I need to put the plug wires on the new distributor and had it apart too long (i forgot the sequence). Whats the order they go back on?

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That is the firing order. Cylinders are 1-3-5-7 on the drivers side of the motor, 2-4-6-8 on the passenger side. Distributor should spin clock wise. Set it up on #1 TDC, and run the plug wires around cap off that one being #1.
