Question about 1987 Ford F 150
Truck has been idling high since we changed a spark plug about a month ago, and we have looked around the engine to see if something was knocked loose but we have found nothing. It is idling so high you can watch the gas gauge go down and one of the drive tires on the rear keeps spinning while on ice or snow.
Is it possible to change the idle speed on this truck or do we have to replace parts?
It may be this or the ( pcv valve ) pcv get clogged alot on old fords. The idle air control valve (IAC) control the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the throttlebody . This valve allows air to bypass the throttle plate. The amount of air is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal.

If this truck has a carb on it check the automatic choke. Sounds like it is not coming off high idle. The kick down linkage needs to be adjusted and or the heater element in the choke housing is not adjusted correctly or become inoperative.
