The ABS/BRAKE light on my 2000 Passat are coming on. My guess is that it is the ABS module. Any ideas as to anything else it can be and how to repair?
Dont guess !! get it plugged into a scanner and see what the code is
OKEY TRY TO GET A CODE WITH SCAN TOOL AND IF YOU CANNOT CONTACT WITH YOUR ECM YOU HAVE TO GET FIX YOUR ABS CONTROL UNIT.
BOSH ABS MODULE GIVES PROBLEM ON THAT MODELS I HAVE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1999 PASSAT V6 I SENDED MY PART TO GET FIX AND WAITING FOR THE COME BACK.
GOOD LUCK.
I DRAIN THE BRAKE FLUID FOR THE FIX LEAK FROM MY CALIPER AND I REMOVE THE ABS UNIT AND TAKE THE ELECTRONIC MODULE OUT AND SEND THE FOR THE REPAIR.
Brake lights are controlled by a switch on the brake pedal. Switch needs to be adjusted or replaced.
Hope this helps.

The ABS light on my 2001 Passat has also come on. I took it to the dealer and they confirmed that the ABS module needs replacing (about $900). I read somewhere that the brakess will continue to function like non-ABS brakes if I can't afford the $900 repair. Is there a way to turn the dash warning light off? I pulled the only fuse that appeared to relate to the ABS system, but this light did not go off.
why do you suspect most expensive component ?? the abs light will come on for many reasons such as sensor wire/s broken/ sensor ? any one of four ? a faulty /cracked excitor ring one on each wheel even fluid or oil/grease contamination of sensors can interfere with sensors to name a few possibilities? may i suggest you check each wheels sensors +wires 1st if you discover anything ? please come back with update then may be able to advise further
I WOULD SAY FROM PAST REPAIRS YOUR GUESS WILL BE WRONG.
the anti-lock braking system light comes on and is flashing and beeping. what is the probable cause and is it expensive to fix. is it something I can do myself?
