Thank U silver top only temp gauge problem

  • Anonymous Apr 03, 2009

Heater gauge barely moved AND poor heat. Replaced thermostat and did flush and fill. Dramatic difference in heat and gauge now works properly.

hi you only mention the temp guage reading ? does your heater blow hot air? are coolant /rad hoses getting hot ? if they are ? then the temp sender unit is faulty ? however if coolant is cool and heater not blowing even warm ? your problem is most certainly the coolant/engines thermostat has failt in open position resulting in coolant flow thro rad all the time hope this helps?

Why does temperature gauge only reach a little past half?

Larry, If the cooling system was not bled properly, the temperature could fluctuate up to 3/4 then normally back down to 1/8 on temp gage.
If your gage is just staying a little over half when running, that is actually normal and acceptable.

The temperature gauge in my 2007 Chev Equinox... is up passed the red section... all the way up to the temperature icon. My car is not overheating. What can be done to fix this? How safe is it to drive...

Its probably the gage itself. A quick stop by a Dealership and they can check the instrument cluster gage by gage. For free maybe! If not the gage, could be the engine temperature sensor.
As long as the engine is NOT overheating, you can still drive it.

My temperature gage set on cold; it just begun today and it will not move pass it the temperature gage sensor and where is it located.

You didn't give any vehicle information but I would certainly check the ECT (engine Coolant Temp) sensor. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to install. Put one in and see if it fixes it. Good Luck

Hello Sir! I have a1993 Ford Escort LX 1.9L Engine Station Wagon. My radiator fan turns on only when the temperature reaches almost to the red mark. When the rad. fan comes on, the fan stays on only for...

It sounds like either your temperature sender is U/S(but you replaced it right),or there is a problem with the relay that it operates(check this first)or short the sender wire/s and you will then know for sure which one it is.

The butterfly pivots on the throttle body can collect up residue, and can sometimes be cleaned with thinners if you can work it in whilst moving the pivot and then lubricating with light oil or possibly even WD40.

Otherwise it means stripping it apart to polish the shaft and journals.Remember to also lube the cable to offer least resistance and a short term fix might be fitting a slightly stonger spring.

Please leave fair comment if this has helped you.
