Question about 1994 Mercury Cougar
Mid range speeds. If I punch it or get to about 80 mph it smooths out and runs like it should. A fuel injector stuck open and the computer went bad at the same time. Caused a lot of white smoke and the rough idling and running started then too. Replaced the injector and the computer and the smoke problem went away but the idling and rough running stayed. Have replaced the mass air flow sensor and, plugs, wires, coil packs. I wonder why it gets smooth when I punch it or get to 80 mph.
Not saying this for sure, but I had the same problem, and i have a 1994 xr7 V6 3.8 L , and all u need to do is set the idle down manually because your computer could have seen that the injector was stuck open, and tried to turn up idle to keep up with the amount of fuel being pumped, worth a shot :P
