First thing I'd do is to support the front end on a good flat surface with jackstands or on a lift and turn the wheels back and forth to see if it's a wiring short or just too much load on the steering pump, causing the engine to shut down. I'm not sure if you have one but some power steering systems have a pressure sensor on the high side of the system. If you have one, make sure that it is OK and working properly.

Oil Filter change on 2002 F-150 two wheel drive

I've learned a little trick I wish to pass on. before you do the oil change. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left then shut off engine. This will move the steering linkage out of the way so you can remove the filter without any problems.

Power steering issues

I'm going to agree with the rack conclusion. Keep in mind I can't see it for myself.
If you take the load off the front wheels, you should be able to turn the steering wheel without effort.
If the effort changes while turning the wheel, the only things affected would be the rack and the column.
If you notice it turns ok with the engine off but not with the engine running, it could be something with the pump or one of the lines, or still something with the rack.

I have a 2000 Chrysler Voyager and both the ignition and steering wheel have locked up. Is there a way to fix this without replacing any parts?

usually you need to put a little pressure on the steering wheel turning it one way or the other while you try turning the key until the lock releases this often happpens if the wheels are turned when you shut the car off but can happen at any time

While i'm driving, the jeep slows and the steering wheel tightens and the system shuts down, why?

The systems etc. are shutting down because the engine has died.Steering is heavy because all the vacuum assist has stopped.i.e. power steering. Why the engine is stopping is the main concern.Fuel,electrical.Its very hard to tell without some more info on how the motor is playing up.After a few stabs on the brakes I bet they go hard as well.(no power assist).A dealer can plug in the diagnostic and tell because it will have a memory of a problem that occured.Sorry I could not help you further

Check your power steering fluid level. Top it off with power steering fluid only.

The pump and or steering mechanism may be failing. Be very careful driving this vehicle as a full failure could leave you without any steering.

Engine shuts off going down the road

We had a similar problem and it was the connector that connects the ignition module (bottom of coil packs to the wiring harness. The technician spread the socket connectors and it solved the issue.
