Question about 1999 GMC Suburban

2 Answers

I have a 94 gmc pickup v-6 with 4l60e tranny and it won't stay in overdrive once it warms up but shifts and drives well otherwise. If I leave it in drive it seems fine. Any suggestions?

03 jeep gr.cher. 4.7 HO 545RFE tranny when cold it takes tranny 5 - 10 min to shift into overdrive once warmed up everything works flawlessly. oil level is good. otherwise no problems at all, no slipping,...

There is a temperature sensor in the transmission to allow overdrive to work once the temp reaches a certain point. This is mainly to aid in getting the engine & trans to operating temperature, you could have a weak sensor or it could just be taking a while to warm up. Sensor is accessible without removing the trans.

good luck

Is a 94 gmc seirra tranny the same as a 97 gmc

if they are both a 700 r4 tranny then yes they are the same.. Most had that tranny so I can pretty much say they are the same especially with overdrive.

Transmission shifting problem

Check the tranny filter and make sure it is clean. If not clean it out and put it back in. Sounds like it is just not shifting right. this could be the problem. Also try first just checking fluid level with the car running.. If it is low it could cause this too..

91 gmc shifts in and out of overdive

I had an 89 Suburban that started doing the same thing. Change the fluid/filter and add a quart of Lucas Transmission Fix. See how that does. Ultimately, you are going to have to rebuild or replace the transmission as the problem will only get worse in the end. Mine finally went down completely and cost me about $2700 to rebuild.
