I can play with the temperature knob and get heat to come out for a little while, then it goes back to cold in a few minutes.

Sound like a stuck blend door motor, not switching back and forth from hot to cold. the most likley cause is a bad heater control panel not commanding the motor to move as requested.

It could be a short in your heater control switch.Try this giggle the switch with the heater on high.Kinda push the switch to the right , hold then to the left.If you get heat , well its your switch.

I have a 2004 mazda rx8 i just got it and the ac blows hot air like i have the heater on do you think it just needs recharged

It is more than likely a wire that is loose on the back of your ac/heater control. You need to have it soldered or you can do it yourself by taking the dash apart and pulling the heater control out and soldering it yourself...save yourself some money. :)

2004 Mazda RX8 Heater problem

There is a well known problem that is a manufacturer's defect with the soldered connection on the circuit board behind the temperature knob. There is a fix to re-solder the connections but the dealer will gladly take $450 to replace it with the same bad board that will last you a while. Look for the link to show you how to fix it yourself.

Heater blows cold air

the electric motor that open the heat door looses electrical connection there by the door stays on cold / it is located under the a/c heater assembly / which requires removing the whole dash and heater assy// also bleed all air out of coolant system
there are three doors / 1/ a/c heat 2/ mode /defors 3/ recurculation dodgeboy6069@yahoo.com
