no spark after last break down, fuel pressure, timing & plug wires ok . brand new battery drained by something and now wont hold charge

  • lrrice98 Feb 24, 2009

ran perfect after engine installed then died again then fuel pump replaced and ran perfect for a few weeks, then two more fuel pumps ran for a few weeks and died again new crank sensor , pick up, coil wire, maf sensor, distributor , new plugs, ignition switch all these parts that people tell me . Something ruined a brand new battery, it won't hold charge. the new one before that started leaking.

I think if i was you i'd take the starter off and have it tested. Maybe your alternater too. It doesn't cost to have them tested.Something is causing massive power surges, and the starter shorting out internally, or a dead short is the only thing that can do that. I am not calling this a solution, but it's a possiblity. One other thing it could be is the computer, which you can also have tested.

Try the ignition wiring harness in the steering column. I did and it solved my problems.

1997 Chrysler Sebring cut out while running, replaced fuel pumd, cranksensor, got used distributer from running car, then replaced the computer and it started!! but cuts out right away!at first would

See if resetting your ECC (ECM) called the computer will get rid of these problems. You do it by unhooking both battery cables, waiting at least 15 minutes and rehooking the battery. No security thing, only the fact the computer needs new settings for the parts you installed.

My 99 jimmy wont start, i can hear my fuel pump kick on when i turn the key. the jimmy will fire up and die right after that.

If the ECM will not get any signal from the crank sensor it will shut off the engine, so I will suggest have the truck scanned and if it says no crank signal then change the crank sensor.

Gets gas gets spark but don't start. new fuel

1. does it turn over? if so, strong, or weak? 2. did you replace the fuel filter? 3. coil packs, or distributor (pack(s) can be tested) if distributed check cap and rotor, replace coil, but first check starter relay - 4. Check all ignition fuses, starter fuse - (along with relay{above}) 5. Check all connections from battery - positive, negative etc.

1997 Jimmy cranks but wont start can hear fuel pump run

There's 2 things that an engine needs to start. One is ...it has to have spark to the spark plugs to detonate the fuel fumes inside the cylinders. Check for spark by removing a spark plug the placing the spark plug next to a ground. Use heavy gloves or rubber gloves so you won't get a shock if it does have spark. Have somebody crank the engine. it should fire a blue spark at the spark plug tip. if it does not. Your problem is you don't have a spark. You have to look at several things that might be causing the lack of spark. It could be the coil or coils, the distributer system , or the ignition system such as your switch.

The other thing it needs is fuel. the fuel system has to be workng right to start your car. Check that the fuel pump is working and that the fuel is being distributed properly.

With the brief explanation you gave that's all I can sy for now.

1997 , wont crank

if starter will engage and engine can turn over quickly it should start.

however.. i dont know how you are verifying it has fuel as its a high-pressure FI system.

these systems by GM are VERY finicky and unless within spec precisely it will NOT run. i suspect fuel pump is putting out less than 57# which is min for these.

fuel pump known failure part. if replaced you MUST also replace wire harness at tank as they usually fail internally w/melted wires you cant see through wire sheath. low voltage will KILL the new pump.

also you didnt note engine size and family...

97 gmc jimmy will not start. I recently replaced the fuel pump and I can hear it initiate. I put on a new fuel filter. One day I was backing out of my drive way and it just died. No rough start or...

Did you also check the ignition system?? Best trick to find out if you have fire on the plugs is to pull one out, put the wire on it like if it was still sitting in the engine, hold it with the threaded part touching the engine so it will be grounded and able to make a spark, and have a friend turn the key inside and try to start it. If it does fire up, ignition should be OK and the problem should reside in the electronics side of the engine. Which means check the Idle Air Control, Throttle Position Sensor, Mass Air Flow/Pressure sensor, and last but not least, the onboard computer.
