the operators guide shows, that the lamps do a self test keyon.
that way you know 2 things.
the lamp is ok.
and the device (feature) on other end of lamp is not dead.

the CEL lamp must glow key on or the ECU is bad, stuck in backup mode, or the lamp it out.
simple hard rules there.

the FSM Book shows how to test the lamp with out pulling the cluster. it shows, disconnecting the ECU, and grounding the CEL pin on the ECU connector, key on
if the lamp does not glow now, then the cluster must be pulled.
all suzuki books show that.

Remove the light assembly

A zillion other things might be wrong light. power train, body puter,
etc, etc... but glows for smog #1 and may blow or a display VFD may show lots of errors, all this is fully expained in the operators guide in the glove box.

take your car to the auto store that does free SCANs.
also nicer (not the stealerships) will scan for fee so. ask them.
get it scanned,
then that tool shows. an error code. then post that here.

420 is O2 sensor, this can happen from putting the wrong replacement sparkplugs in or just age of vehicle this just happened to my suzuki vitara so i replaced the plugs ($18) and the code hasnt come up again yet. if it does come up again ill do the sensor ($180). prices indicated are do it yourself prices

light is engine fault

Something triggered a fault within your cars diagnostic system. You need to have a "fault scan" done and it will show what part(s) failed. Sometimes it's just a power spike or an instance where something happened extreme enough to trigger the light. Most times it's a simple fix. You can get any good auto parts store to scan & reset your lights

you might have a short in your wiring. have you done any electrical work recently?

turn the power switch off for the transmission. It is not a warning light. It just indicates the power switch for the trans is on which lets the trans delay shifting in each gear so it allows the engine to get more RPM'S so it produces more HP and Torque.

you will have to test the coil.
