I've had the car for about 3 years and never had any problems with it up until this point. Last week was driving along looked down noticed my service engine soon light was on and took it in to have the computer ran. Ended up needing the new thermostat had that replaced, brought the car home drove it about a half a day then noticed the fan running after the car has been turned off. However I have noticed that it doesn't do this every time and it doesn't get hot.The check engine soon light or any other lights are on at this point. I am just curious if some thing else could be wrong or if this is what the car is suppose to do? As you can tell I have no mechanic skills!

I have the same issue, but with the 2001 model. The cooling fans ran once after shut off only once after a long trip. After replacing the thermostat, the cooling fans run after shut off about 80% of the time...Took it to Nissan, they said there is nothing wrong with it...

Have you noticed your fan working before your thermostat was replaced?

It is possible that your fan has been disconnected and disabled for some time. When they replaced your thermostat they may have reconnected the fan sensor?

Personally, I would welcome more cooling time after engine shutdown.

1996 nissan altima running hot changed thermostat new radiator you can drive it an hour before it runs hot

check the operation of the fans, since the radiator was recently replaced, it is posible they may not be plugged in correctly or operating like they should, if they look good, look into the water pump, with the work that u already did the only this left to look at after the water pump is the intake or head gasket, any water in oil or vice versa? look into that if all else fails....

Radiator fan running after engine turned off on 98 nissan altima

You need to diagnose the problem. The fan is doing what it is being told to do by the computer. You stated the temp gage on the dash is in the HOT position. Either the engine is very hot and the fan needs to run to remove heat even after it is shut off or the gage, coolant sensor or temp sender is defective. Try running it temporarly without a thermostat and see what happens, you may have bought a defective thermostat.

The fan on my nissan altima 01 always comes on after I shut my car off... my buddy just replaced the radiator and now the fan does not turn on after i turn the car off??? what should I do??

Hello, that is normal for the cooling fans to run after the engine has been shut off, its still bringing the cooling system to normal. If the fans run continuously, check the fan relay fuse.

Might be the fan bearings are going bad and letting the fan wobble abit on start up. Check for cracked fan blade, or loose.

1998 altima overheating

It may be the thermostat, but you should also check:-
1) Coolant level is at correct level (full) when checked cold- prior to running,
2) Cooling fan/s are running normally as they should when coolant temp rises,
3) A coolant hose on the suction side of the water pump is not collapsing (due softening) causing restricted coolant flow,
4) Radiator coolant core is not blocked, or radiator heat dispersion air fins blocked with insects/grass,
5) Engine does not have other running problems that cause it to overheat.

Thermostat code coming on

could be the wrong thermostat. thermostats open at diferent temperatures. check to see what your vehicle temp should be and make sure the thermostat is made for running at that temp.
