The reverse lights are operated/controlled by the neutral safety switch located on the transmission close to the tranny dipstick. This switch is adjustable and may correct your problem with a slight adjustment. Here is a picture that may help.

Back up lights won't work bulb ok

did you check the fuses first>?
a/t or m/t
auto or stick tranny
if auto, it uses a PRNDL switch side of tranny ,wiggle the shifter in reverse, work now>?
stick the 5sp has a manual clutch
the 5sp has a reverse switch top of tranny. its bad.

or trailer wiring hacks?
behind the left rear tail light is this magic, trailer connector that folks
some times hackup. look there first. if signs of a hitch, or tapering.

Reverse lights stuck on 2002 acura tls

the reverse light switch is broken.
we call this switch on A/T tranny, the PRNDL, "Prindle"
its stuck at R
or is trailer hitch wiring from H3LL. (just a glance there and .....)

on M/T tranny car is called the REverse switch. a single switch and vastly cheaper.

You need to get your tranny rebuilt. The motor that is already in your truck is set up for that Tranny so i wouldnt change it at all as it would cost alot more then you need to spend to do it. . I also would go to Mr.Transmission as they do great work on trannys.
