1990 Honda Civic,Car wont start after its been running for awhile, then it starts after it cools down

Hello,

You have a common problem; back in the early 90, the distribtors assemebly was causing alot of shut down problems for Hondas, the pickup assembly inside the distibutor would become hot and stop producing sparks/ engey to the sparks plugs. When cars came into the shop we would most of the time just replace the distributor assembly, but they can be kind of expensive thought, if you live near a salvage year it may be your best option for getting a good used one.

I hope this helps.

Hi im ask a question for my son he just bought a honda civic and the guy said there was a switch under the dashboared toturn it from cold to hot and do you know were that mite be locate

He probably means the heater control valve. It is located by the HVAC box under the dash where the heater core is. It opens and shuts allowing hot coolant to run through the heater core.

There is not an OBD connection on this vehicle but there is a diagnostic port under the hood. It is usually mounted on a bracket on the engine.

1990 Dodge Caravan 3.0 Was driving then it quit

Check MAP sensor first. Unplug connector and plug back in again and try to restart. (Known sensor issues.) Can scan for codes on sensor.
If that doesn't work, check ignition module.
Question: Do you know for sure if it's ignition and not gas? Also known for bad fuel pumps.

Hi,

Thanks for Using fixya!

Please try to check the bulbs if they are still okay. Also, check the relay for the headlamps. These relay can be found in the underhood fusebox. I hope this helps.

Have a nice day.
