Re: starter is sticking
Dont overlook the electrical portion of the ignition sys. its located on the steering colum just where it goes under the dash, there is a rod that the key portion pulls on to operate this.and they do go bad in fact ford recalled many of these for overheated circuits and vehicle fires. not trying to scare you just making you aware as far as the starter itself it could be and with the vehicle age I would replace as P.M good piece of mind for you. have a good day DB

It could be as simple as a poor connection on the starter solenoid wire. Is it a push-on connector? One could do a little checking. When the starter won't work, test for power on the solenoid wire when key is held in crank. If power there, clean the connector, and check if starter works. No power? Then move to the neutral safety switch, check for power leaving the switch, key in crank, and clutch depressed. Power should be passing through the switch. Another thing to check is all your grounds-the battery, the engine ground, computer harness ground.
try to get a jump from a friend and see what happens, does the same, faulty starter, may need replacing, try to use small hammer and tap lightly on the starter couple time and have a friend start the car while you tap lightly on it. check ignition switch where you stick the key in. stick the key in the ignition and turn the key back and forth jiggle and wiggle it and see if your igniting will make contact. do it several time to test and see if its the ignition problems, this part is not cheap to replace.
