My 98 Rodeo started getting about 6 miles to the gallon a couple of months ago. It runs great, no missing or running rough at all. When my son bought it for me about 8 months ago, it got pretty fair gas mileage. Then it just seemed to be using more and more gas, so I checked it and about fainted when I saw just how bad it is! I am a 60 year old lady, so I don't know a lot about cars, but I do know that it should be getting better than that !! Help!
At 6 miles to the gallon the engine will not be running properly
if it is running well then you have a fuel leak in a hose somewhere or your method of calculating the consumption is flawed
to get a consumption reading , fill the tank completely , take a note of the mileage and use the car normally you have to refuel again
fill the tank completely and take the mileage again
now deduct the first mileage from the second to get distance driven and use the second fill amount to get the fuel consumption for the distance covered
SOURCE: runs like ****
you dont need to ground your ht lead, infact that could damage your ignition system, if in fact removing it from the plug does make it worse you then know that this cyl was firing and that ignition on this particular cyl is not your problem.
SOURCE: gas mileage dropping
While changing all the filters and things, did you change the fuel filter? It could have just been poor quality fuel which can be caused by getting fuel from the bottom of the barrel so to say. If the station you got the gas at was getting low there is a chance that there was water in the fuel. Normally this would cause the vehicle to run a little bit rough, but not always. I would run another tank of fuel through it and see what you get on a second tank.
SOURCE: Horrible Gas Mileage
i would change the fuel filter and i would take a flashlight and to make sure none of my fuel injectors are leaking and i would also put the car on ramps and put something behind the rear wheels and check all of my gas lines under the car as while.
SOURCE: I have replaced wiper motor
This is really an easy fix. The wiper motor assembly is on the firewall, just right of center. The wiring can be unplugged before the circuit board is removed, or afterward. I found it easier to unplug it after the circuit board was removed.
There is a flat cover that is held on with three torx screws (T20). Remove those screws and remove the cover.
The circuit board will now be visible. Remove the circuit board by grasping the wiring connecter and gently pulling it towards the front of the vehicle. When the circuit board has fallen free, unplug it from the wiring harness if you haven't already done so.
The solder joints that connect the wiring socket to the board go bad on the board. Just resoldered those and re-installed the circuit board.
Good luck and hope this helps. keep me posted, be glad to help.
