2001 GMC power window repair- front drivers side

Removed the door panel and saw a frayed metal cable. Minimal window movement and very noisy. What to do and how much?

I am not 100% familar about the innerworkings of your particular truck but in majority of GM aplications there is a Bar that goes along the Bottom of the Window that has plastic clips in at least 2 locations these clip attach to a Cable and pulley system that is attached to the power window motor raise the window when You press the button

*many of the pieces can be ordered individual from the dealer
before I order anything If I were you I check and see if the cable had come off one of the pulleys causing it to get stock and fray the cable... You might get away with just putting a block of wood in the bottom of the door to support the window when you manually pull it to the raised position and try and free the cable.

Note that the entire assembly can be taken apart and the window can be left in the door. This is a several hours long job for a mechanically inclined person with no experience I have changed 1 on a pontiac Aztek 2002 model and a 2002 Trailblazer which uses the same part as the envoy ...

note carefull of cutting the knuckles I did that a few times when replacing the assembly.

Driver's side power window quit working while down on 2001 Jimmy SLE


You'll need to get into the door panel. It's held together with clips and screws. Find the screws in the arm rest or ? remove the screws and starting at the bottom, pry the panel away from the door carefully using a wide screw driver or ? once removed, yoll see that the window is inside the door reinforcement. It generally runs on a rail, under which is a scissors lifting arm. Sometimes the window detaches from the metal rail and can be epoxied if its loose. Use a good '5 minute epoxy' from an auto parts store, mixed well and using a popsicle stick, mix two parts together well and smear onto the metal rail which is under window assembly. Let it sit for awhile, usually 24 hrs, until well hardened. This might fix it forever. But NOW, you will have to reassemble the door panel, pressing the clips in place and replacing ALL screws that you removed. This is not the only way, but the quick and dirty way! It usually works in cases where the window bottom has separated from the scissors rail.......Cheers

How do I remove the front driver side power window switch on a 2008 Buick Enclave



Armrest Door Pull

Remove Rubber Cover

Remove 10mm *****
The first step is to pry out the plastic trim plate behind the chrome colored door release handle using a small flathead screwdriver.Then remove the 10mm ***** behind the plate using a ratcheting wrench with an extension bar attached.
Next pry out the rubber cover at the bottom of the door pull located in the center of the arm rest. Use a Torx T-25 (star bit) screwdriver to remove the two screws.

Pry Up Arm Rest Panel
Use a flathead screwdriver to pry up the rear of the plastic arm rest panel. There is a plastic hook at the front of the panel, so only pry it up from the rear edge.

Power Window Connector
After you lift out the arm rest panel, you'll need to disconnect the power connector for the window and door lock switches.

Two More T25 Screws
Push on the release tab with a flathead screwdriver and pull out the power window / door lock connector.Use a Torx T25 screwdriver to remove the two screws located below the arm rest panel.

Then move to the outer edge of the door panel and locate the two small round fasteners. Use a small screwdriver to pop in the center pins of the two fasteners.

Pull out the two plastic rivet fasteners and set them aside in a safe place.
Pull Panel Away From Door

Pull Off Sail Panel
Grab the door pull in the arm rest and tug it towards yourself to disengage the pop rivet friction fasteners that hold the panel to the door frame.Move to the top corner of the door panel and pry off the triangular "sail" panel. On some vehicles, the sail panel contains the tweeter speaker.

Pull Out Door Pull Cable
Lift the door panel off the door lock button and tilt the top of it out towards yourself.Use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently lift the metal ball at the end of the door opener cable out of the mechanism.
Disconnect the door cable from the back side of the door panel.

Disconnect Power Mirror
Then disconnect the power connector for the side view mirror by lifting up on the release tab. Slide the power connector off the plastic anchor on the metal door frame.

Look behind the door panel and locate the large wire connector with the pink lever lock. Swing the lever open to unlock the connector and separate it from the socket.

Now the door panel can be completely removed by lifting it up and off the door frame.To replace the power window motor, remove the 10mm bolts.

The stock "OEM" speaker is held in place by a single 7 mm *****. Remove it with a socket and ratcheting wrench.

Disconnect Power Plug
If the speaker is stuck to the door frame, gently pry it off with a small flathead screwdriver.Disconnect the speaker's power plug by pressing the release tab with the small flathead screwdriver.

Re-installing Door Panel
According to the Crutchfield website, the 2008 to 2012 Chevrolet Malibu's front door speakers can be replaced withaftermarket speakers in the following sizes: 5 1/4", 6 1/2" or 6 3/4" speakers with the use of a bracket.If you'd like to reduce road noise, make your car quieter and also improve the sound from your speakers, I'd recommend applying some Dynamat Sound Deadener on to the metal door frame.

To re-install the door panel, first hold the panel close to the door frame before re-connecting the large wire plug. Swing the pink lever closed to lock it in place.Slide the socket for the power side view mirror back on to its anchor and insert the power plug.

Insert the metal ball at the end of the door opener cable back in to the door handle mechanism.Slide the black plastic cone part of the cable back into the slot in the door opener assembly.

Gently lower the door panel down on to the edge of the door frame with the door lock switch through the opening at the top.
Line Up White Plastic Fasteners

Push On Sail Panel

Push Door Panel In Place
Move to the bottom of the door panel and line up the white plastic pop rivet fasteners with the holes in the metal door frame.Push all around the door panel to re-insert the pop rivet fasteners.
Re-attach the sail panel at the top corner of the door frame.
Push Panel Flush Against Frame

Insert Side Edge Fasteners

Insert Larger Piece First
Next move to the side edge of the door panel and first re-insert the larger piece of the two fasteners. Then insert the smaller "pin" piece of the fastener into the middle of the larger piece.

Install Lower Edge Fastener

Tighten 2 T25 Torx Screws

Re-Attach Power Connector

Insert Front Hook First
Insert and tighten the two Torx T-25 screws located under the arm rest.Re-attach the power connector to the plastic arm rest panel.
First insert the hook at the front of the arm rest panel and then snap the rear end in place.

Tighten 2 T25 Screws

Replace Rubber Cover
Insert and tighten the two T25 Torx screws into the door pull cup. Then replace the rubber cover over the two screws.
Tighten 10mm Door Handle *****

Replace Door Handle Trim Plate

Malibu Door Panel Replaced
Replace the 10mm ***** that goes above and behind the door opener handle and tighten it. Pop in the plastic trim plate behind the door handle.

Driverside windowcontrol panel does not work


I had the same problem with my vehicle and i removed the panel and there are plugs and wires that connect to each section of the panel either one or more have become loose and cant connect or you might had a frayed wire.

I have a 2003 GMC Denali and the drivers door window will not go down. It was making a grinding noise a few times before it stopped working


probably a cable operated setup but regardless, its the motor or regulator. if its cable operated u want to get the motor/regulator combo. the cables fray and get f'd up after awhile. to be sure, take the door panel off and make sure u have power and ground on the motor terminal (only two wires plug in they swap pos and neg with up and down)

My driver side window all of a sudden stopped rolling up and down, how can I fix this?


If it's an electric window,Check you fuses, and make sure you didn't blow one and If that is not it check for frayed wiring, not it again, listen to see if the motor is running when you engage the switch, still not it maybe you need a new motor for your window. If its manual, open your panel and check to see if you stripped something out. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Need to find a way to take off the drivers side window motor


Motor
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the door trim panel and watershield.
  3. Detach the motor wires at the multiple connector.
  4. Remove the motor retaining screws using Torx® drive bit set D79P–2100–T or equivalent, and separate the motor from the bracket and cable drum housing.
  5. Remove the motor from inside the door.
To install:
  1. Position the motor and drive to the cable drum housing and motor mounting bracket. Install the 3 motor screws and tighten.
  2. Connect the power window motor wiring.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. Check window operation.
  5. Install the watershield and door trim panel.

Door Panel
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Snap out the two door pull strap retaining screw covers. Remove the screws.

CAUTION To avoid breakage of the door pull covers, insert a small screwdriver diagonally between the pull strap and chrome bracket. Snap out both sides then remove.


  1. Remove the two screws on the front and rear side of the front door trim panel.
  2. Using the trim pad removing tool, pry the trim panel retaining clips from the door inner panel.

NOTE Do not use the front door trim panel to remove the trim clips from the door inner panel. Replace any bent, damaged or missing push pins.


  1. Remove the window regulator switch housing from the back of the front door trim panel. Lift up the housing and disconnect all connectors from the switch housing.
  2. Disconnect the driver seat regulator control processor switch if equipped.
  3. Twist out the interior lamp wire assembly.
To install:
  1. Ensure that the plastic watershield is secured to the door .
  2. Position the front door trim panel to the door. Connect the interior lamp wiring.
  3. Align door lock side to its mating slide on the sheet metal.
  4. Snap in the front door trim panel. Ensure all retainers fit properly. Install the two retaining screws on the front and rear side of the front door trim panel.
  5. Connect the driver seat regulator control processor, if equipped.
  6. Position the window regulator control switch housing and connect the switch connectors. Install it to the front door trim panel by snapping it in, or by installing the screw at the rear.
  7. Install the two retaining screws and pull strap covers.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

there are screws along the trim of the door remove them and it should pop off . that happened to my sonota the glue holding the window wore out

Passenger front power window


Thier is a Metal panel behind the door panel.
Both need to be removed

Yes. If your window has fallen down and will not roll up.
99% Chance you car is suffering the Infamous VW plastic clip.

The door panel comes off With a T-10 torx or a Hex (Allen) wrench
that will fit and A large Philips Screw Driver..

Remove the Plastic cover on the inside Door handle.
And the Screw or Screw along the Bottom of the door panel.
Then remove the screws that hold the handle the the door.
They are located behind the Plastic plate you removed with a tiny screw driver earlier... Be careful not the mark up the cover whaytprying it up. It is best to pry from underneath. Where marks if made can not be seen

After the screws are out 4 I believe. The Use of a CLip tool ir best.
For getting behind the panel to pop it off. A screw driver will work.

After all the clips are released. Pull the light at the bottom of the panel down and out. Disconnect it ur push it back thought the hole it came from..

Now you need a 10mm socket, or wrench to remove the 12 bolts that hold the metal plate to the Door. Remove all the 10mm bolts, If the widow has not already fallen in the door. It should be released. By removing the Black 2" plugs. THe loosen the bolts that clamp the window the the arms. DO NOT LOOSEN THEM ALL the way, .
Disconect the all the wiring.. THe Door lock cable,can be a pain.
I think it pulls down,.
Next remove the Metal plate. that is the regulator.

Driver's side window


You will need to pull the door panel and then the window regulator inside the door, the glass will be riveted or glued into the metal channel mounted on the top of the window regulator, most late models are riveted. Be careful to install in same position as removed.

Window regulator


If you are a hobby or trained welder you can fix the regulator provided the only problem is a broken cable. Remove the entire mechanism from the door and lay it out on a flat clean surface.I bought 1/8 cable (1/16 is actual size but 1/8 works on mine) and silver soldiered a hollow metal nipple onto the end of the cable. You have to install the cable on the drum first...measure the overall length of the old cable and then the resulting tension will be correct. If the old cable is too frayed for a length calculation then install a long length of cable onto the drum bolt on the regulator/motor mechanism and use needle nose pliers to hold cable 'extended' against the spring tensioner.
The entire mechanism can be installed into the window/door frame with a twisting movement which allows the two frames and motor etc to pass by the door interior structure until it lines up with the bolt holes. If you're really careful and have small arms you can place the window on the bottom of the door leaning against the door away from you and all the way toward the door hinges. That way you avoid issues of window removal and installation into a curved frame and rubber seal.

By the way, a new motor/regulator complete assembly is about $100 so weigh that against your time when you decide which way to go.
