My 86 sami lack speed and power

Hi Heather,i have a 85 Nissan 720 with 2.4 engine and Weber carb.with 5 speed,so when you start and put it in 1st gear,does it do this then.

4.11 gear ratio front and rear diffs, did lots of these over the years.

for lots of reasons. how steep a hill, offroad.
50% grade , 99%?
is yours Carb or EFI? 1990 first EFI.
is it still stock, original engine? many are not.
many with carbs, no longer have stock carb. but have weber. as ungrade many do..
just asking for wild guessing, ?

some are upgrade to EFI G13 or G16A or B engines.

the stock carb will be bad,, a hopeless case if ever there was... (no kits sold nor parts.)

but lets to the carb hit list.
1: choke stuck on , foods and stalls.
2: float, level all wrong, (will cause too lean or rich , rich is too high) or stuck high.
3: jets all dirty causing horrid lean state.d
4: emulsion tubes (air) clogged.
5: low fuel pressure, or too much if using a usa fuel pump with insane 15psi pressure that carb will fail. or the downgrade to electric pump done wrong. ask me if true.
5: air leaks below the carb cause lean and lack of power,
6: clogged air cleaner or fuel filter.

this is not a guess,
but each takes inspections and testing. fo find it.

sounds like engine need some cuddle :) I mean, first thing to do is to check engine compression ratio. If that is ok, then make sure carb adjustments are correct and all fuel lines ar clean. Good luck!

On the chevy small block v8 the numbers will be on the left side of the engine look for a small step right at the head / block mating area. The numbers will be in the form of a ser# get that number and call a good chevy dealer and they can tell what engine you got. But any small block chevy crate engine will be a 350 or a 305. they will act the same as far as tune up and any vacuum hoses to the carb or trans. They interchange of a sort.

Could they possibly have gotten the timing(check it with a light) off or distributor turned wrong? don-ohio

internal vacuum leak in carb. replace with weber carb you will be very happy

check for a clogged exhaust look at catalytic converter it could be stop up.

It sounds more like a timing problem. If it backfires through the carb that means the intake valve is open when the spark plug fires. Same with the exaust but it the exhaust valve that is open.
