Question about 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Engine Sputtering and lurches

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee with 120,000+ miles runs great except it will sputter and lurch when I'm driving it until I give it gas and work through it. Sometimes (not all) I hear what I can only describe as a popping or backfiring sound. It only does this one time and will not repeat untile the next time I start and drive the car.

Any suggestions?

What does the MIL code "PO 320" mean, please?

code p0320 refers to cam shaft position (CKP) sensor/engine speed (RPM) sensor--circuit malfunction=== causes --wiring--CKP/RPM sensor ---ECM
because the engine runs ok until it is on cruise control I would be investigating the RPM sensor for a fault
The cruise control takes its control from the RPM sensor and if that circuit is interminable the the cruise control doesn't know what rpms to maintain.

While driving my car suddenly started sputtering lurching and shaking, then the check engine light came on. I took it to a service station that used to be Chrysler and they fixed it, then 10 minutes after...

this sounds like an intermittent wiring problem. the wires to one of the spark plugs, coils, or fuel injectors may be faulty or damaged. Mice love to chew on wires and you did mention that they found some small animal debris or maybe nesting materials. This will have to be tediously checked out with a multimeter. the good news is, once the damaged wire is found, it can be inexpensively repaired.

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Sputtering at idle and reverse??

Leaky EGR. Faulty plugs or wires. Vacuum leak at intake manifold or hose connections. With enginre running, wiggle all vacuum lines around and look for loose damaged or disconnected hoses, and listen for a hissing.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic just quit while I was driving it.

it sounds like your alternator is going out to me. you can go to your local autozone and have it checked. Also if your check engine light is on they will check for codes for free that will tell you the problem.
