Question about 1996 Dodge Dakota

I have headlights, but no tail lights or Plate lights. I checked all fuses, they are working. The Headlight Switch Has Power Going To It, But There Is no Tail Lights Or Running Lights. Any Help Would Be Great

Have you chk. the tailight plug under the bed in the rear? could have come unpluged, or corroded, do you have a trailer plug? chk. that. Has anyone cut into tailight wires for trailer lights? If you find no problem back there then its time to trace the wires from rear to front, broken wire someware.

No dash lights or tail lights


Well it could always be a wiring problem, but you were right in thinking it was the headlight switch. Each circuit is different and only joins up in the headlight switch. Each circuit has a fuse sending power to the switch. So I would want to know if you have power in and out of the headlight switch on each circuit.

Tail lights not working


All of the marker and tail lights are powered from a 15amp fuse going thru the headlight switch on a brown wire. Do you have power from that circuit coming out of the headlight switch ?

These are all different circuits. The brake lights are on a 10amp fuse - the headlights are on a 50amp fuse - and the parking and dash lights are on a 20amp fuse.
Do you have power going into the headlight switch and the brake light switch ?

1984 aprice classic, Headlights, Tail lights, Interior lights not working (shut off while I was driving) Brake lights, blinkers still working... I checked fuses and replaced headlight switch... Still not...


Maybe power got cut going to the headlight switch. I think that would be a fusible link coming right off the battery source and going to the switch. Fusible links were used as power distributors before the era of maxi-fuses and power distribution boxes found in today's cars. Just like fuses, the link is designed to break and stop current flow if power demand is too high, like a short. Sometimes they get old and just give out. When the link goes, the wiring insulation may bubble or melt off some, the link may feel uneven or rough. Fusible links can be cut out and replaced with a similar rated new link. If you have no power to the headlight switch, look for a melted fusible link.

No power to tail lights or license plate light.


check the fuse with a test light on both sides of the fuse,
next would be the headlight switch.

2002 neon no dash lights or tail lights. does have headlights and turn signals. the brake lights work also. the fuses are good.


then the problem lies near the dash because dash,tail,and license plate lights work on same circuit

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....


The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Dash and tail lights don't work


if it is only your tail and instrument lights you need to replace your park light fuse in the fuse box...
