1990 Buick Regal 3.1 has rough idle, hesitates and dies when accelerating.

A lot of new parts! Have a compression test done to gauge the engine's internal condition, and go from there. If compression is good on all 6 cylinders, scan for trouble codes. The compression test may find your problem, something like an exhaust valve burned or not seating properly.

My 1998 Mercury Mystique came up a P1131 reason for not passing smog. According to what my cousins mechanic said I believe the smog technician tried to advance the timing to get it TO PASS the smog test....

CODE P1131 LACK OF HO2S 11 SWITCHING HO2S SIGNAL LOW INPUT. POSSIBLE CAUSES IS AIR INTAKE SYSTEM LEAKING VACUUM HOSES LEAKING OR DAMAGED. AIR LEAKS LOCATED AFTER THE MAF SENSOR MOUNTING LOCATION. BASE ENGINE MECHANICAL FAULT COMPRESSION VALVE TIMING. HO2S CIRCUITS WET OR OILY CORRODED OR POOR TERMINAL CONTACT. HO2S SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN SHORTED TO GROUND SHORTED TO POWER OR THE SENSOR HAS FAILED. LOW FUEL PRESSURE OR VECHICLE DRIVEN UNTIL IT WAS OF FUEL.POSSIBLE AIR LEAKS AT THE PCV VALVE OR AT THE RELATED HOSES.

PCV valve failed visual inspection during smog test, but the car passed physical smog test. How to replace 2002 Ford Escape PCV valve assembly?

remove the hose to the PCV and It simply pulls out and a new one is pushed in and hose is inserted back on. It's kind of like a cork. I can not believe they check for visual inspection. Here in SC, we don't have inspections. But anyways, GOOD LUCK

Changing PCV valve

you pcv valve should be located on the top or around the intake on top of the engine. It is covered by a little pcv valve rubber hose...it is easy to identify because it is similar to a radiator hose but a lot smaller...no where near the size of a radiator hose...but when located, the pcv valve just pulls out and to check for it being bad, shake it and it should sound like something loose inside the pcv valve (thats a good pcv valve) but what they look like, they should be a silver looking color with a small little neck on it

Where is the pcv valve located on a 2003 ford ranger

  • The PCV valve can be located in several places. The most common location is in a rubber grommet in the valve cover. It can be installed in the middle of the hose connections, as well as installed directly in the intake manifold.
  • Once the PCV valve is located, make sure all the PCV system hoses are properly connected and that they have no breaks or cracks.
  • Remove the air cleaner and inspect the air and crankcase filters. Crankcase blowby can clog these with oil. Clean or replace such filters.
  • Oil in the air cleaner assembly indicates that the PCV valve or hoses are plugged.
  • Make sure you check these and replace the valve and clean the hoses and air cleaner assembly.
  • When the PCV valve and hose are in satisfactory condition and there is oil in the air cleaner assembly, perform a cylinder compression test to check for worn cylinders and piston rings.

    Smog problem

i think it should be pcv or egr. no idea what a ecg might be.... unless you are having a heart attack or something.
if its pcv...its a small fitting attached to the valve cover, it has a small valve in it and a hose going to the intake. new one is under 10 bucks, and its 1 minute to change.
egr...a little more involved. have someone you know with a little automotive knowlege check it for you. the check is easy, if no good could be valve, passages, etc. what does the smog fail sheet say exactly????
