1996 Doge Ram 1500 5.2 liter, turns over but wont start, or starts & then engine shuts off when I put it in gear

could be a clogged fuel filter. if there is no problem with the fuel filter it ould also be the timing is out or belt is old and stretched. timing belt or chain should be replaced every 60,000 miles. most likely as simple as the fuel filter though.

There is no standard interval for the CE/MIL light. You need to get the codes scanned at a local AP store to see what codes you have.

Indicator light it is a red line on both sides with kind of a cocked z look in between them almost like thunderbolt and was wondering what that was also do i have to let truck sit for about ten secounds...

This indicator lamp is for the Electronic Throttle Control. If it is on while the engine is running, the vehicle should still be drivable, but requires a service check. If it is flashing while the engine is running, the engine will run poorly or not at all.

It is normal for this lamp to come on for a few seconds when you first start the engine, this serves as a test to be sure the lamp is working.

ever tuned it up? sounds like its due. plugs, wires, fuel filter (if equipped), PCV, and an intake system cleaning should restore your fuel economy to where you want it.
