Misfiring on a 2004 Chevrolet 1500 silverado

I have recently (this weekend 2/14/09) changed the alternator, spark plugs, spark plug wires on my truck but I am still having problems. The truck is giving a 'battery not charging' read out across the dash as the needle fluctuates between 10-14V. It is misfiring and the lights on the truck are constantly going back and forth between dim/bright. I had a diagnostics done on it and all it says is that it needs a tune-up (after it had been done). Does any one have any suggestions on what this might be?

    I have no trouble codes.

the check engine light did come on and they are the ones that told me that it was misfiring and needed a tune-up. You can also feel it while driving.

    AutoZone ran a diagnostics

The check engine light came on again so I had another test done on it and the trouble code is P0300. The engine size is 4.8.

I'm also getting 'battery not charging' and the battery light on. The alternator was replaced for this reason but the message is still coming on. Do you know what might be causing this?

I just replaced the coils in the truck because of the P0300 code that came up with the check engine light but the truck is still running the same and the check engine light is still on. Is there anything else that I can do for this?

P0300 is a random misfire of all cylinders, you really need to go to the dealer to get this sorted out, it may be that the computer needs a firmware update to the EPROM.

then it is not misfiring, that would blink the check engine light.

Yes the alternator has a problem or the connector to the alt is defective or you have corroded wiring connectors, have the alt tested, have had many customers come in and say they had the alt replaced but always turned out to be the new/rebuilt was no good, one guy got 8 alt's before he got a good one.

Start with a tune up, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, air filter and that might cure the PO300B code, hope this helps, Gary

Truck seems to misfire when are going between 65mph and 70mph

# 5 cylinder is 3rd back on the driver side.
Check you spark plug! if the plug is ok, check your plug wire! (a good way to check your wire is to get a spray bottle, fill it with half rubbing alcohol, and half water. wait till night, spray plug wires fully, then start truck. the wire that is bad should spark! hope this works for ya!!

Which is spark plug #5 on a Chevrolet 2000 Silverado 1500?

i presume that is a v-6 ?

Stand at the side of the motor. Look toward the front... you will note one cyclinder is slighty more toward the front then the other. that's number one cylinder .... across from it will be 2 etc... so last cyclinder on the same side as number one should be number five.
