It appears that the speedometer now has an offset. It's bottom limit is approximately 70MPH (vehicle not in motion, powered on or off) but it appears to work otherwise (increases as you accelerate, decreases back to 70MPH when to slow to a stop).
Any insight as to why this might have suddenly popped up as an issue. Everything else on the dash seems to be orerating normally.
I owen a 2005 hummer, my speedometer sometimes goes crazy, to back it up when it stays on a speed even when off, just start your engine turning the truck on then all the way to the off position, this will start to back the speedometer up, about 5 mph at a time, do this till it is set back to 0
GM used bad instrument cluster motors in all 2003-2006 SUV. And in half of the cars they sold. It was not recalled as it was not considered a safey feature and the US gov agreed. Eventually all 7 motors (Gas gauge, pressure, temp, etc) will go. New Cluster sold by GM for 400+ or you can get repaired from $100 to $150. If you remove yourself and send away you can get for 90 plus shipping. No wonder GM is going under. There are currently 40+ flakey parts on GM model SUVs and Trucks 2000 to 2006 that tend to oddly go just after warrenty is up. I welcome death of GM
i have a 2005 hummer -the gas gauge pooped four days after I got it and now the speedometer is all messed up. at a stop it reads 35mph. I thought the oil change guys did something to it-cuz how convenient was that- i get an oil change and poof!-speedometer jacked up.-thanks for the info. calms my nerves-guess ill have to shell out the cash to get them fixed.
