Usually codes for the braking system will be under body or chassis. most of the time over the counter scanners will not have access to these modules. your problem could be anywhere from the abs module to one of the wheel speed sensors going bad. you can test the wheel speed sensors to see if they are working correctly by jacking the vehicle up and checking one wheel at a time. wheel speed sensors give out an a/c voltage when the reluctor ring on the axles passes by the sensor.

before you run the tests it would be a good idea to make sure the wheel speed sensors are clear of any debris where the sensor picks up the signal from the reluctor wheel.

using a digital multimeter set it to read a/c voltage on a 2v scale or lower is possible millivolt scale will usually work

disconnect the connector at the wheel speed sensor and touch the DMM to the terminals on the sensor itself ans spin the wheel, see if the DMM reads the voltage change as you spin the wheel. repeat these steps for each sensor. *the voltage should steadily rise and fall as the wheel speeds up and slows down respectively. if the voltage is all over the place its usually a good sign that the sensor is bad.

if all sensors seem to be working properly you can trace the wiring from each sensor to see if there is a short or break in the wiring.

without the proper scan tools testing the module is near impossible unless you can find the schematics for the module and start testing inputs and outputs.

hope this helps!

I have a 2001 chevrolet silverado with the following codes C0265,CO241 C0245 C0246 CO251. ABS & BRAKE LIGHT COME ON AND OFF Thanks Joey

looks like you need an ebcm. You can check the ground under the drivers side door attached to the frame, make sure it is clean and tight.

DTC C0241-C0254 or C041-C054
Circuit DescriptionThe ABS relay supplies battery voltage to 6 valve solenoids. The electronic brake control module (EBCM) microprocessor applies the grounds needed to activate each solenoid. The low side of each solenoid coil has a feedback circuit to the EBCM microprocessor. When a solenoid is commanded OFF, the feedback voltage is high. When a solenoid is commanded ON, the feedback voltage is low.
Conditions for Running the DTC • The ignition is ON. • The vehicle speed is greater than 6 km/h (4 mph). Conditions for Setting the DTCThe EBCM detects an internal malfunction.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets C0241, C0242, C0245, C0246, C0251, C0252, C0253, C0254If equipped, the following actions occur:
• The EBCM disables the DRP/ABS. • The ABS indicator turns ON. • The red brake warning indicator turns ON. C0243, C0244, C0247, C0248If equipped, the following actions occur:
• The EBCM disables the ABS. • The ABS indicator turns ON. Conditions for Clearing the DTCThe conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present and you use the scan tool Clear DTCs function.
Diagnostic AidsAn intermittent open/shorted solenoid DTC can be set by several different internal EBCM problems. Replace the EBCM if an open/shorted solenoid DTC continues to set intermittently.

How do I reset the ABS light on my 2006 Ford Focus?

If the problem has been repaired than the light will go out automatically. If you have not repaired the problem the light will not go out even if you try to clear the codes with a scan tool.

Your best bet is to scan the ABS module with a scan tool and find out what codes are stored. Then you'll have a much better idea of what the problem could be.

Chrysler grand voyager 3.3 2000 TC and ABS ligts are on but what is the issue? How to fix it?

the likely problem is there is a problem with the ABS system. Since the traction control uses the ABS to function if there is a problem with the ABS it will fisable the traction control.

Have the ABS module scanned for codes. There are hundreds of possibilities and you can break the bank blindly trying one thing after another. The trouble code(s) will point you in the proper direction. Either a particular wheel or a particular part. Once you know you can concentrate on that wheel or part of the ABS system.

The most common problem is wheel speed sensors and broken exciter rings.

1999 saturn light with a wrench is on. Disconnected batt. But that didn't work

Hello. this is a warning indicator. this light is on because there is either a problem with the engine control system, or even possiblity the abs unit. you will need to have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes to see why this light is coming on.

The SERVICE (Wrench) telltale is pulled to ground by the powertrain control module (PCM). When the lamp is pulled to ground, current from the ignition circuit flows through the indicator lamp, allowing it to come ON. The PCM will turn the SERVICE (Wrench) telltale ON for all non-emission related DTCs that require that a telltale be turned ON (some DTCs do not turn on a telltale but are stored to aid in diagnosis).
The SERVICE (Wrench) telltale will also be turned ON if the ABS control module has detected a fault in its own warning indicator system. If the ABS system cannot turn on its own telltale, a message will be sent to the PCM through the class 2 data bus (circuit 1807) to turn on the SERVICE (Wrench) telltale.
The SERVICE (Wrench) telltale will be turned ON for 2-3 seconds when the ignition is turned to RUN for a bulb test.

My abs light is always on and now my brake warning light is on but brakes seem to be working fine

The ABS light is a warning that you have an issue with the ABS system. The red brake warning lamp is serious. It is telling you that there is an issue with the base brakes. Your car will be ok with an ABS light, but the red warning lamp could be really dangerous. You should have them checked ASAP. It could be from many causes. A park brake switch, low fluid, the causes are too numerous to list. Please for your safty have it checked. Good Luck

Brake and ABS warning lights on, trac off on.

You may have a bad abs controller. You need to get the code for the abs light from a shop or auto parts store.
