Question about 1999 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

Battery light comes on while stopped and idling with heater on when sitting at a red light for more than 2 minutes or so, and when this happens I slip my Caravan into neutral and slightly rev the engine for a moment until the red battery symbol disappears. I do not dare even try to use the max cabin circulation button or for sure the battery light comes on instantaniously and is difficult to get rid of. In general most of my major power equipment is affected by this problem, such as slow moving power windows, definate electrical strain when heater is turned on (dims the already dim headlights) and yet the battery seems to always check out ok when I get the complimentary battery diagnostic from the Wallmart service technician who changes my oil. I have since the problem first come about have changed out the battery just to cover that base, with no satisfaction. I have backyard mechanic buddies that say it may be the voltage regulator, or maybe the CPU, or maybe the... Bottom line, what might it be almost most indefinately? So I can address the problem once and for all and have a most definate idea what I'm up against. Thanx, RAC

Maybe a weak alternator, the voltage regulator may also be in the alternator, auto zone may be able to tell you weither it is or not, AND... they will test alternator for free as well.

I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar and the gauge inside tells me that the engine is over heating, no heat is coming from the heater when I turn it on, the fan for the engine is running at full blast, the engine...

Hi,

The overheating and lack of cabin heat both point to a failed engine thermostat which would be stuck closed. At the warm up stage, the coolant stays in the engine block to bring the engine to efficient operating temperature, then it opens and circulates the coolant through the radiator and heat core. If the thermostat is stuck closed, the engine will overheat, and coolant will never reach the heater core, and you will not get cabin heat.

Blinking oil light at idle which goes away during driving could be a low oil level, but may also be a drop in oil pressue. You could have a clogged oil fliter (at best) pickup tube, or a failing oil pump.

I have a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria. Battery light came on a couple days ago. Got a new battery. Battery light comes on then goes off. After driving awhile radio, heater, and lights cut off and on. I notice...

From the sound of things it sounds like a combination of things, check and make sure that your battery clamps are tight. Is the battery holding its charge? If it is then the alternator is not the problem. It sounds like loose wiring shorting out somewhere. i would have it checked by an auto electrician. I hope this helps.

2003 montero sport. will not idle since battey boost

sit with foot on gas at steady 3000 rpm, then turn on all your lights, hazard warning lights, heater, and window defrost, if the power drops , then you need a new battery....sometimes the battery power can control the engine idle, the alternator is only for charging the battery, not for running the cars electrics, this is the battery's job

Rough idling and poor fuel economy on 92ford f-150

This whole problem is most likey due to a sludged up intake and idle speed control valve, do the following procedure and it should take care of the problems, also run a couple of cans of LUCUS brand fuel injector cleaner through, I know u will see it is more expensive than other brands, but the thing is it works!
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Battery warning light comes on when idling with heater running...

Normally when the battery light comes on the alternator is the fault. You can go to Autozone or a similar store and they can test this on the vehicle.

1st check the coolant level. If it's low, it won't circulate thru heater core, and result is little or no heat. Let me know what u find, we can continue.
