2002 Chrysle Town & Country Power liftgate won't open.

When I try to operate the Power liftgate, it unlocks - but won't lift. It unlocks but still stays partly latched even though the lights flashed and the beep has sounded. I can open it manually with the handle but it won't operate in the auto closing direction either. What could be wrong?

I had a similar problem. Initially, the liftgate would not go up under power. Later, using the latch (manually) would cause a chime, but it would not unlatch real well. Now, the manual latch won't work at all and I need to use the key to open the liftgate.

I guess I need a motor to make the gate go up, and something else to make the latch work. Can you help?

    Thanks.

Since the day I bought it used I had trouble. Just took it in to get looked at and was told that it was a problem with the latch and would cost close to $1000 to fix.

Replace the lock on the rear door. If a used lock is used it has to have the powered door. I am a car dealer and have replaced about 8-9 of them. I sell a lot of Town & Country vans. The 1st one I paid a Chrysler dealer to fix. About $200. After that I fix myself. About $70- $125 from a Chrysler dealer new with discount. The lock is not sending the correct code to the computer and the door is confused on what to do. Only 3 torx bolts to remove and the door panel 2 screws in handle then snap off.
On one I had that did not fix the problem and it was a relay sensor about $40. on the working arm / motor of the door and not the lock. Look at car-part.com for used parts. Thanks, Roy

Power lift gate will not operate

You have to pull the inside door panel off an check it out , only way !
  • The lift gate latch release is inoperative/does not operate correctly
  • Circuitry
  • Liftgate release switch (integral to the liftgate release handle)
  • Liftgate release motor (integral to the liftgate latch)
  • Power liftgate module
  • SJB
  • Go To Pinpoint Test F .
Normal Operation The smart junction box (SJB) does not release the liftgate unless the doors have been unlocked electronically or the request is initiated from a remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter.
The SJB sends a voltage signal to the liftgate release switch (part of the liftgate release handle) through circuit CPL45 (BN). When the switch is activated (the handle is pulled), the signal is routed to ground through circuit GD150 (BK/WH). When the SJB detects a request from the liftgate release switch, the SJB provides voltage through circuit CPL10 (BN/BU) to the liftgate latch release motor (integral to the liftgate latch) (vehicles with a manual liftgate) or the power liftgate module (vehicles equipped with a power liftgate). For vehicles with a manual liftgate, ground for the liftgate latch is provided through circuit GD150 (BK/WH).
DTC B2666 - is an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects a short to ground from the liftgate release switch input circuit.
DTC B273A - is an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects a short to ground from the liftgate latch release output circuit.
DTC B273B - is an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects an open or short to voltage from the liftgate latch release output circuit.
    Possible Causes
  • Circuit CPL45 (BN) open or short to ground
  • Circuit CPL10 (GN/WH) open, short to ground or voltage
  • Circuit GD150 (BK/WH) open
  • Liftgate release switch (integral to the liftgate release handle)
  • Liftgate release motor (integral to the liftgate latch)
  • Power liftgate module
  • SJB
Your best bet is to take it to the dealer !

Chrysler 2002 liftgate problem

Does it power open at all. If not I bet its the latch. This is pretty common on these. Also I have seen when rust will build up on the hatch lift supports. The door will pop when it opens Just clean off the rust with some sand paper.

Liftgate wont open, have to use the key, but if I press the key to close the rear lift gate it will close it.

can you hear the latch release when you try to open? if no clicking noise is heard then most likely a bad latch assembly. also check the rear door control module to see if smells burnt, if it does it won't send open signal. the module is located behind the plastic shroud on the left of the rear hatch.

I have a 2002 Town & Country Van 3.8 the power liftgate dose not work, It will make a beeping noise and act like it wants to but the latch dose not seem to unlock all the way. Have to use key in it and...

I'd start by removing the inside panel to gain access to all the linkages in behind there that run to the latch. Not uncommon for those linkages to seize (rust) up, causing it to bind too much for power latch to do it's job. Spray them all, Latch where they connect to it & especially connections and pivot points with penetrating spray first to get them loosened up and moving freely, then after, put a good coat of white lithium or similar spray grease to keep moisture away.Good chance that is all it needs.

Power liftgate doesn't work

The power liftgate motor is located on the driver side panel directly behind the lift arm. First you will have to take the safety belt bolt out. After you get the plastic piece free from the body you will have to take the bolt out of the arm that connects to the hatch. Make sure you have a big enough torx bit for the bolt that holds the arm to the gate. This will allow you to slide the plastic piece off and out of your way. If you are having trouble getting the plastic piece to come off from around the liftgate arm, try putting the door down, that helped me. The rest should be easy. Hope this info helped you out.
