Question about 1999 Mercury Cougar
My brand new baretty went dead everything in the car went dead untill I got a jump. It ran for a minuite but the rpm meter was incorrect, the radio did not play. it ran just long enough for me to get the car home.
Which engine do you have? if you have a v6 the alternator is located on the passenger side of the engine in the lower rear corner. there is also a recall on that in regards to the voltage sensing system google mercury alternator recall, also make sure the connectors on the alernator are good and tight check the terminals inside the connector as well, my buddies 2000 cougar had the same problem and it turned out to be a loose terminal on the connector to the alternator. on the v6 version the alternator isn't all that easy to get to. i'm not sure about the 4 cyl versoin but if you look around you'll find it, usually on the passenger side
