Re: fuel guage stopped working
The fuel sending unit has gone out. This sending unit operates the fuel gauge. It is located in the gas tank. You will have to remove the tank to fix this. You can try banging on the tank, sometimes the float arm on it gets rusty and will get stuck in one position and the banging will free it up. From your description though, it sounds like the sending unit has shorted out and needs to be replaced.

You may have a unique problem!!! Normally I would say it is the sending unit- in the fuel tank!!!! But Buick LeSabre had a weird thing happen from time to time. Look closely at your fuel guage and focus on the PIN that acts as a stop for the fuel guage to not go beyond the Full mark. Make sure the pin is on the correct side of the pin!!! Sometimes the needle will somehow jump the pin on "E" or "F", and literally hold the needle in place.
sounds like a loose connection somewhere could be ground connection or corrosion problem check connections and clean if that does not solve could be sending unit getting ready to fail replace as nessary
i would most likely replace the sending unit in the tank, this is wat meters fuel level and transmits bak to guage. i would first tap on top of dash board wen guage acts up to see if there are any changes in its erratic action,if there is then ur problem would b a faulty guage or in that area,if not then its safe to go bak to tank area an replace sending unit... good luck
The guage stopped working, because a code set , possibly due to a faulty fuel sending unit, or a wiring issue. This would neeed to be scan tested for the current code. After repair is made, and the code is cleared, the guage will work again. Thanks...
U may have a defective fuel pressure check valve in the electric fuel pump, u have the classic symptoms, to check this buy a fuel pressure test guage for your truck, about $40, the test port for fuel pressure is on the top of th engine in the fuel rail that supplies fuel to the injectors, hook up the guage to the test port and run the engine, make sure u have no fuel leaks at the hook up, then shut down the engine, the fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI, if it does the check valve is defectiveand you need a new fuel pump
