Question about 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Car shuts off while driving.

2 Weeks ago while driving I stopped at a stop sign and the car just died out on me however the radio and cd player stayed on. I immediatly thru the gear in park turned the key and started the car back up. I thought nothing of it really because the check engine light didnt come on. I drove 5 miles up the road an it did it again while in traffic I repeated the same process and the car started back up. I don't think its an electric problem my best guess is that it's fuel related but hey I'm no mechanic. I just know that its been like this for the last 2 weeks everytime I try to operate the vehicle.

My vehicle is a 1996 chevy caprice sedan 95k miles

Trying to get some advice though

    check the vehicle speed sensor that sits on the extension housing of the transmission because it might be causing the torque converter clutch to stay on all the time which would make the car act as a manual like when you press the brake down without using the clutch..... the tcc activates once the ecm senses the car is at high speeds to give you better gas mileage.

You might want to try a new fuel filter, if its been a while sense its had a new one, when they start to plug it will act like that. You may also want to chk. the fuel pressure to see if the pump is getting weak, pumps going bad are a common problem on G.M. cars and trucks. but don't loose sight that it could be electrical, with todays cars anything is possible, but sense the light did not come on leads me to believe its the fuel thing.

Could be a fuel problem , but try this first. When coming to a stop or light, either put transmission in neutral or with two feet brake & hold the gas alittle. The reason for this is maybe your idle speed is too low , very common problem on these engines with 75k plus miles. The idle air passages can get clogged up with carbon & lower the idle speed. Could also be a sticking egr valve causing a vacuum leak that will let the engine run fine , but stall at idle speed.

I have a 2000 Subaru outback has the stock radio and CD player in it just a few weeks ago the CD player stopped. Does it need cleaned?


I have problems from time to time with my home cd player and clean it with an air spray can used to clean computers, seems to work for me, it's a cheap first step.

Battery drain


Remove the fuse for radio. The tape player should stop clicking. Then try to see if the battery dies.

Stalls when car decelerats, then break light and all lights come


get the oxygen sensor checkde out and the maf sensor...sounds like a vacuum leak too...Stop driving it and get it looked at ..if you dont see any loose hose's that are small in dia.. .then check those 2 sensors i spoke of ....

Sounds crazy but have your Alternator checked?
Sometimes things will act up in your car if your alternator is trying to quit on you!! happened to me.
i thought the mechanic was nuts but once it was changed everything went back to normal.

Radio/cd player stopped working after battery replaced


Had battery replaced on 2005 DTS and afterward the radio/NAV/On-Star would not work.(Totally dead) The dealer who installed could not locate problem. (No GM dealer in Amador County, CA). I read several forums citing this/similar problems. I checked the three fuses labelled "radio, audio, NAV" by pulling, checking and reinstalling (all three were good). When I then restarted the car, everything was once again working! Poor connection? Corroded contacts? Some mysterious computer glitch? Who knows?

Coin stuck in cd player


Take out the radio. Remove the nickel. Reassemble and reinstall. Next time feed it krugerand.
