Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

Pops out of 1st gear

I have 1999 Ford Taurus with 78000 miles. This is a intermittent problem that only happens when the trans is at normal operating temp (hot). Start to take off from a traffic light will get to 3 to 5 mph & it feels like it kicks out of gear for a nano second & then slams into gear. It may do it once & then not for a couple of days or again at the next light. Now Saturday it popped out of gear the the engine revved & didn't go into gear until I let off the gas. The fluid has been changed & it is not burnt. Any ideas?

Have to rebuild the transaxle

You changed the fluid on an already slipping
trans,now it is worse.

Too old a vehicle to put time & money into

I owned a trans repair shop in the early 1990's
& 50% of my work was caravans & taurus ,so that
tells you their not a good unit at all, only the ford
windstar & it's replacement were as bad or worse

1999 ford taurus.....wont go into any gear..is it the transmission?

if the shifter wont move with brake pedal pushed ck , shift interlock, brake pedal switch, and key interlock. if the shifter moves and trans does nothing ck cable underhood at trans for operation if working yes you have trans problem . ck fluid to see level or if burnt fluid will smell real bad if low trans wont work right.and a trans can fail with out setting any engine or trans codes.so ck engine light wont come on. there is some times a release by the shifter a small cover you pull off and stick a key or small screw driver in slot and shifter will move.

The trnsmssion on my 1999 Ford Taurus with 43,000 miles on it, just went off as i was driving back home at 20 miles/hour, it just went neutral, the transmission oil was clean and complete, what could it...

that model year was notorious for defective transmissions. a trip to your local trans shop will verify trans rebuild or sensor replacement..

Friend has a 1999 Ford Taurus. Said it will only go into 1st gear & reverse. Said person she bought it off of said to check the solenoids in the transmission first to see if any need to be replaced....

need to check solenoids first, located in trans and the first part youll see whrn you pull the pan off if theyre ok it will be internal in the auto trans and it may need repairing

2000 ford taurus- wont shift into gear

first check drive axels , since you replaced front springs on struts i assume. it is possible that one of the axels popped out. next if thats ok check fluid level in trans with eng OFF should show over full make a srcribe mark on the stick. then START the eng it should go down to full or just below depends if trans is full or a little low . if level does not drop approx.1/2 in or so then have a transmission shop check for bad splines in torque convertor, that is a comon problem in that car, year and milage do not play a roll a large roll in parts failure in trans any more. not like it use-to.

mae sure trans is at correct level should be a vent close to top of trans make sure it is not plugged. that would cause a trans to pressurize and find the weakest point. just a shot
