Question about 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis

92 Grand Marquis chugs and dies when at an idle. Also jerks alot

This problem has been going on for awhile. The car jerks while driving no matter what speed we are going. If I am at a stop light it dies. Before dying it starts chugging really bad. The spark plugs, wires, Map Sensor and one of the coils has been replaced. What can be the problem? Also, the fuel pump was replaced within the past year.

The throttle speed control valve must be cleaned. The valve is located near the throttle body throat. It has an oval flange with two bolts. Unplug it, take it off and clean it out with throttle body cleaner. You will notice a big difference. This is a common issue with this engine.

Have you replaced the air filter and PCV valve ? Check the IAC (idle air control valve) located at the fuel system . Where you look into the hole going to the fuel side. remove the air duct work. and see if you can see 2 holes at the side. The IAC is located at the outside of those holes.Sometimes cleaning the IAC will get rid of the problem. If not. the fuel pressure regulator may be the problem.

I have a 1994 buick skylark with 2.3 and a/t it runs and drives great except when slowing from high speeds it dies when approaching a stop. it jerks like transmission isn't shifting. when u restart it,...

Check for vacuum leaks on all hoses underhood. Make sure all intake componets are intact and they are tight.

Is the check engine light on? If so, get to an auto parts store, they should pull the codes for free.

Sounds almost like a bad throttle position sensor. The computer uses the TPS to help know when to shift on this car if I remember right, and if the TPS is bad, it can cause that jerking. Along with the car dying when slowing down after driving. But check everything else out first. Including electrical connections.

My car is jerking while driving.

Have engine wiring harness checked as 1993-1995 MB's were forced by US to use biodegradanle insulation on its wires. If thats not it replace coils and do a tunes up.

Jerky accelerating, late response to gas being pressed

Well for one, make sure you speed up slowly, dont HIT the accelerator. It may also be problems with your fuel filter. After you are stoped fuel stops running through the fuel pump/filter and then when you start going its starts to run through again and it cant keep up so it gets bubbles in it and doesnt move throught the filter easily hence the jerky accelerating. Good Luck
