Check the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) or the idle position sensor (IPS). They are located near the fuel system.

How do i ajust the mixture screw on the 1985 nissan 4x4 kingcab pickup

If the engine is not running turn the screw all the way in and then turn it out 2 and half times
Start the engine and turn it in until the revs start to drop.
turn the screw out (keeping a count of the number of turns ) until the revs again drop
Turn the screw in half the number of turns that you screwed it out until the revs started to drop and that will be very close to set. If the idle screw is set so that the engine is idling too low or too high then adjust it in conjunction with the mixture screw anti you get it right

Start but won,t stay runing only at fast iling

Possible problem with the fuel settings as the idling is faulty. So you will need to set the engine after a full check up on the fuel settings starting from the tank, the fuel filter , pump .
The idling setting must match the fuel settings.

1987 Nissan truck, VG30 engine for past several months is idling too fast. Tried adjusting idle - no luck. Searched for RPM idling between 1500 to 2000 all the time? Even with warm engine.

The choke cam, which advances idling when the engine is cold, is possibly stuck in a partially closed position. A spray of penetrant oil with a bit of manipulation of the shaft should fix that problem.

My 85 Nissan p/u stalls when coming to a stop when cold and has varying rpm idle once warm. Sometimes real high and then dropping off to normal.

try cleaning the throttle body and iac don't adjust any of the screws most likly you have a vacume leak or a bad idle air control motor

Poor idle

my truck was doing the same thing, i tried to adjust the idle screw and replace the ignition system but it didnt help. What i did was replace the carb with a webber and the problem was solved. I'm not saying to buy a webber but you might just need to rebuild your carb or something similar
