If it is head gasket you realise because the car consumes water, often you have white smoke from gasket, and you also have less compression and performance.

Check first that the cooling fan is starting , that is the most common cause for overheating on Clio.
Check the two fuses for the fan, there is one in the fuse box under the dash and another one on the fuse box on the engine side, under the hood.

The water pump is also possible, often when it is broken it makes noise, and the light comes as soon as the engin gets hot.

Is the oil/water a milky colour? if so, then yes, your head gasket has blown

What is the brown sludge in my water coolant and why has my engine lost power on my 05 Renault megane coupe cabriolet

Sludge is engine oil. Add lost power and = you have blown head gasket or cracked head. Sorry to convey such bad news.

Hi, I have a renault clio 1.2 and there is a constant build of "mayonnaise" type oil inside the filler cap. Water never needs topping up, not sure what's going on ?

You have water seeping into you oil, usually a leaking cylinder head gasket. Have it attended to immediately, the contaminated oil is causing other damage while you drive. Sorry to say, but you are looking at a rather pricey repair.

I have a renault clio 52 reg, the engine coolant keeps goin down

i have a clio, had same problem too. its the head gasket. when this breaks or cracks it allows water into parts of the engine it should not, and therefore the water starts to mix with the oil forming this 'light brown gunge' the problem is that when driving with a damaged head gasket you will damage the head of the engine too which is why this is reoccuring. your best bet is to take apart the engine, clean it out, buy a new head gasket and then get the head of your engine skimmed. this could solve the problem depending on how damaged your head is.

I have dirty water getting into the spark plugs of my 1993 renault clio 1.8 16v. what is causing this problem?

What happen at some time or another your engine got hot, now the head gasket is damage and letting water go where it should'nt. The only fix for this is to have your head gasket replace and the cylinder head check for crack's and resurfic, also they'll need to fine out why it over heated in the first place . Good luck

The coolant in my renault clio keeps draining i am told its not the head gasket

The head gasket on the R 5 is aluminum,Just see if your oil is like turning a white colour.
if not then its not the top gasket and you can check the water pipes, even a small leak can cause this when the water heats up and build presure so you dont see it coz your driving.

also check the water bottle's cap if it seals properly, you can loose water from steam too...

Hope this helps...
