Replacing the door ajar switch on my 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII

I've removed the passenger door panel and I can see and feel the door ajar switch on the bottom of the latch assembly. I've removed the electrical plug for the switch but I can't figure out how to remove the switch? I can barely get two fingers on it. I thought maybe it twists out to the right or to the left. Do I have to remove the entire latch assembly in order to get to the door ajar switch. I can't figure out how to remove all of the linkages for the door handle, door lock, and push down rod inside the car. Holy ****!

If you are getting the door ajar message you don't have to rplace the switch. Just spray it out good in the latch area with WD40. This will clean the switch contacts and make the message go away. I was a former Lincoln/Mercury mechanic and I used to see this problem on a daily basis. This was the Ford fix for this problem and the one I used on my own 98 mark VIII.

Get a pair of needle nose plires and turn the switch. pretty sure it turns to the left. needle nose locking plires work the best.

Usually the door microswitch is secured by a small screw on the outside of the door , usually below the switch plunger, once the screw is out, the switch should come towards you witha bit of a riggle.

Replace door ajar switch on passenger sliding door

The switch is part of the latch mechamism. To repair will require the door panel is removed, the latch mechanism is disconnected and removed. You may be able to replace just the switch but many vehicles it is considered an assembly that must be replaced as one unit. Please make sure that this is definitely the correct door causing the problem. You have 5 total one on each door and one on the hatch. As much as I hate to send anyone to a dealer they do have the ability to determine which door is the culprit. There is 1 trick...spray the latch with a dose of lubricant (with or the like). Then slam the door about 10 times and repeat. On some occasions road dust gets in there and causes the switch to act up.

Door adjar light stuck on on your Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury?

This is a common problem for these makes. They use a door ajar switch that is attached to the door latch assembly. The most common one to fail is the driver front.

Something you can try is clean the out side of the door latch, the part that actually holds the door shut, with brake clean. Don't be afraid to liberally spray into the latch assembly. Let it dry and then liberally spray the same area with penetrating lube. Again don't be afraid to spray it in every nook and cranny you can get into. Then open and close the door several time. Spray it again with the penetrating lube and repeat a couple of times.

If the door ajar light goes out when the door is closed problem solved. If the light continues to stay on you have two options.

1. Your can remove all the door panels and unplug the door switches one at a time until the door ajar light goes out. Again the switch is located on the latch assembly and has a two wire connector. Once you find the one that is stuck you can remove it and either clean it/lube it until it starts to work again or replace it. The switches twist into position in the latch assembly and if it's your first one it may be easier for you to remove the latch from the door to understand how the switch is attached. Neither is an easy task your first time.

2. You can have a shop use a scan tool to communicate with the GEM module to see what switch is stuck open. You can then focus on that door. There will be a diagnostic charge for this. Call around and see what various shops in your area charge for this. They will know exactly what you are talking about when you explain the problem as it is very common.

Hope that helps!

Windows dont work door ajar light is on

I had my door ajar light stay on, turns out the switch in the drivers door latch broke, in order to fix it you have to get a whole new latch mechanism. I went to a junkyard to get a latch but the guy at the junkyard broke the switch while removing it from the door. I got a new latch assembly from the dealer, pretty reasonably price if I remember correctly. They are pretty easy to break right where the electrical connector connects to the switch. Maybe you have a broke switch?

In the screen appear the legend "passenger door ajar" but the door is complette close, where is the sensor or the fuse in case is disconected

This problem is not a fuse problem, it is caused by a faulty Door Ajar Micro Switch, the switch is inside the door and is attached to the rear of the door latch assembly. You must remove the door panel and the rear glass channel to access the switch.

Transmission feels like it slips sometimes. Also, the auto door locks go off all the time and door open light and sound happens even when doors are closed. What can I do?

Well the door thing and trans thing are NOT related.
The door issue is because the GEM thinks the driver or passenger side doors are open, it's sometimes caused by the door switch in the latch assembly inside the door itself , it makes it easier to have a scanner (I.e. Modis or solus ) to see what the doors are doing to avoid wasting $$ on needless repairs.

You should be able to have a transmission service done to replace the transmission fluid and filter & see if it improves the shift quality. Also make sure you use the Proper type of transmission fluid, most ford's take Mercon V type fluid.

Passenger door stuck shut, need to access fuse panel for other electrical problem. It feels like the linkage is snapped somewhere behind the interior panel. Any tricks before I cut into the panel to access...

Don't cut the panel. You can pull the panel away from the door starting at the bottom. You will have to remove screws holding the arm rest and door handles off to remove the panel completely. The panel will snap back into place after you have repaired the linkage for the latch.

How can I fix a door adjar error on a 1999 Lincoln Continental? When the drivers door is shut, the warning comes on and the dome lights remain on. I don't want to spend money to replace the sensor, but can...

I suspect you have a bad door ajar switch on one of your doors.

The switch is on the door latch. try pushing each door in with your hand one at a time and see if the warning goes away.
The Lighting control module is $500 and controls a lot of the vehicle functions. It is part of the headlamp switch. It has to be configured by the dealer with his NGS tester before it will work. Ebay has them cheap sometimes. Only buy Continental LCM for your model year.

When at least one door is ajar and the key is in the RUN position, the door ajar cluster lamp is activated and remains on until all doors are closed. A warning tone will sound once any time the key is in the ignition switch and any door is open.

Door ajar light on, 1996 aerostar, where are the sensors located?

the door ajar sensor is located on the door latch assembly, u must detrim the door and then remove the rear most window guide rail, it twists into the latch at rear of latch, it is very small and a real pain to change.

What make the dome light and ajar light stays on after closing the doors on my 97ford f 250

The door adjar switch is sticking. Most of the time you can spray WD40 into the latch assembly in the door and open and close the door a few times and this will unstick it.

Ford ranger 1998 the door ajar wont turn off and the dome light isnt turning on

Spray inside the center door latch with WD40 or silicone lubricant. You might have to remove or partically remove the plastic shield cover the opening. It's the part the door latches too, spray all around inside there and that should allow the switch to release. the switch either dries out or gets dirty and sticks, the spay will loosen and clean it.
