1996 tahoe tranny still not shifting

I have cleaned the valve body and the speedo is working.. what else could cause this prob

Have you checked the vehicle speed sensor? That could be toy problem. There is a new on for sale here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-01-02-03-Chevy-Tahoe-Vehicle-Speed-Sensor-VSS-NEW_W0QQitemZ310119729572QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090201?IMSfp=TL0902011110007r7902. Replace it and the Tahoe should shift fine.

    In order to optimize the performance of your vehicle, the manufacturers of the Chevrolet Tahoe have designed specialized Chevy sensors installed at various locations in your vehicle to assess the status and work of vital automotive components. Included in the exhaust system is the oxygen sensor which is responsible for assessing engine output by examining the exhaust gases flowing through the emission control unit. Knock sensors are used to determine engine efficiency and aim to reduce detonation that causes a no-good knock in the engine. Thermostatic sensors are used in the engine compartment to determine if there is a significant increase in the engine temperature that can lead to an overheat. Sensors are also used to assess the level of fluids in your vehicle.

    Perhaps the type of automotive sensor you are least familiar with is the Chevrolet Tahoe speed sensor. Sometimes referred to as the position sensor, the speed sensor is used to coordinate with the onboard engine computer management in identifying the position, the speed and significant change in speed of different components in the vehicle. The G sensor is also known as the camshaft position sensor, which assesses the position and speed of the camshaft. There is an NE sensor, or the crankshaft position sensor which is responsible for identifying the position and speed of the crankshaft. The last type of the speed sensor is the vehicle speed sensor which takes note of the speed, position, and change of speed of the vehicle.

    One common type for a camshaft position sensor, a crankshaft position sensor and the Chevrolet Tahoe speed sensor is the pick up coil. This sensor type makes use of a permanent magnet, a yoke and a coil. The speed sensor is attached near an automotive component with integral teeth. As each one of the teeth is set to motion near the sensor, an alternating current voltage pulse is forced into the coil. In turn, each of the teeth creates a pulse. Therefore, the faster the gear rotates, the greater number of pulses is produced.

Shift solenoid A. No 2nd gear and no Drive. Where is it on the tranny? And this is a 4x4, if that matters.


They plug in on the side of the tranny. But the solenoid control valves module is inside the tranny just above the filter in the oilpan. ? for you is the speedo working properly. You also have a speed control sensor on top of your rear differential. It affect shifting and your speedo

I'm having some transmission problems


I am not an expert on trannys, but I know that the chevy 4L30E and the 4L60E have valve bodies in the bottom that are removable and they contain the shifting solenoids, A lot easier to replace than dropping the transmission. It will only fix the shifting, not the slipping, if you had any. I just bought 2 shift solenoids for mine, and I ma going to drop them in this weekend. I hope they work.

1988 735 i transmission wont shift out of 1st gear just replaced it with 1 out of a 1987 735i


probably some stuck valves in the valve body...drop the tranny pan and pull the valve body....the valves have springs use a screwdriver and open and close all the valves a few times. put it back together and hope that fixes your prob.

converter clutch regulator valve is worn causing line pressure to rise to maximum in turn causing your harsh shifts. Sonax makes a repair kit for it or you can install a stiffer spring to make it work correctly

Transmission not shifting


Sounds like a speedo gear in the transmission ... I think the tahoe one had a speedo cable the speed sensor is located in the speedo ... will cause all those to fail if speedo is not working as did in my Astrovan

I have a problem with my tranny slipping, and also acting like there is no tranny at all. But, sometimes it works... go figure... Do I have to buy a new tranny? Help the truck was sitting for a year...


OK---here is the take---your transmission valve bodies are in need of service. The slippage can also be caused by a faulty torque converter.

You can replace the torque converter for 150 to 300 dollars with a decent one from a salvage yard. I would definitely do this.In addition, if you want the transmission to shift and work properly, (this is a short term solution to a rebuild); siphon 1 quart of transmission fluid out, and replace it with 1 quart of brake fluid. Run for 25 - 50 miles. This will swell the transmission seals, and tighten the valve bodies to function properly. The fix could last up to a year! It will save you money and aggravation, and let you drive the vehicle for a long period of time without comitting money to it!

Car's Speedo wont work and tranny malf


inspect the throttle valve control rod. there could be a small part that has worn out, usually made of plastic and the size of a dime. if this part is missing out worn out it will make the trans shift at the wrong time. it happened to my lincoln once and i thought the trans was going out.

The L60E Tranny's were not Covered under this Recall. Therefore, You should be Just fine with a Cleaning and Reassemby. Won't go into 2nd gear


its the valves in the valve body,depending on how bad their stuck you can get a solution(on ebay) that can release the gum in the valve body.if the problem isnt severe it should work ,if so drain tranny fluid and put new filter in with another dose of tranny solution.this willremove the gum out of the fluid so it doesnt happen agian.this has worked for about ten people i have recomended it to. so good luke.this will cost you under 100$,better than about 2500$

Where is the shift solinoid located on a 1996 4L 80E transmission


I WORKED AT A TRANS SHOP, THE SHIFT SELINOID IS IN THE TRANSMISSION.I DO KNOW THERE WAS AN UP DATE FROM GM WITH THAT PROBLEM.ANS

ITS NOT THE SHIFT SELINOID ITS IN THE VALVE BODY.THEY HAVE A NEW REPLACEMENT PART FOR THAT AND SOME DRILLING IS REQUIRED FOR MORE FLUID FLOW
