Car keeps stalling and jerking - 2008 Dodge Avenger

  • Anonymous Feb 24, 2013

There are not any lights that come on (e.i - Check engine) and this happens about once a week where I am idling at a red light and the car shuts off, but restarts w/o any problems.

I am Chrysler tech. we see alot of this. Check trans fluid. If its full it may need a evap vent solenoid or egr valve. we see those 3 issues alot.

EGR's going bad, sounds like. This starts showing up around 60K miles. The Evap vent solenoid's another one that'll do this.

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano and it's been stalling and jerking with strong gas smells coming inside car.

Question edited for clarity, punctuation and spelling.

There are lots of ideas here, but due to the fact you can smell gas, clean the Throttle Body with spray cleaner. It isn't shutting properly. Clean the MAF (Mass Air Fuel) sensor as well.

My mazda 1800i jeking when acelarating its also cutting out after it jerks then need to have it pushed then it jerks jerks nd not driving properly anyone no of a person that has the plug for a diagnostic...

Hello. It seems the torque converter in your car is malfunctioning/defective; if your car has an automatic transmission. If your car has a manual transmission, the 'clutch', 'pressure plate' and 'throw-out bearing' must be removed and replaced. Malfunctioning torque converters for automatic transmission vehicles and clutches for manual transmission vehicles will cause them to 'jerk' while driving and 'stall' the engine because they won't engage and disengage like they are supposed to. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

1996 Hyundai Elantra 1600 keeps on stalling when stopping. Replaced spark plugs carbon leads, fuel filter, ignition block unit still the same problem, on the highway, it has a very soft slight jerk.

keeps on stalling when stopping - IAC idle air control valve , dirty throttle plate , IAC air passage clogged . Video's on youtube showing how to test . Hooking up a scan tool an checking engine sensor data parameters ,or taking to a qualified repair shop.

Stalling and Jerking

I would check the fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter if it hasn't been replaced for awhile. The last 2 fuel filters I changed, the gas coming out of it looked like black ink.
