It's actually the power wire for everything in the car. Unplug it and the car won't do anything. I wondered that also when I changed the battery, so I tried it with and without, and without the smaller black wire( smaller than the terminal wire) nothing will work. So possible it is the power for the ecu. Where the ECU is directly underneath it on the other sode of the firewall.
Hope this helped you.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say...
If you are saying that you have a Black Cable connected to your Positive side of your battery, then you need to check the following:
As you probably know, there should be a cable (probably black in color) with some sort of Red marking on it or a Red Rubber boot that goes to the Positive terminal on the battery (the battery should also have a + sign or a red indicator on the battery). The other Black Cable should go to the Negative side of the battery and run straight to the firewall or some metal grounding spot in the car.
Any other way will not be a good thing for the car or the ECU.

If on the other hand you are trying to say that you have a separate black cable that is connected to the regular positive cable that is connected to the positive terminal on your battery, then it could be anything. It could be a connector to some other device in the car. Maybe an aftermarket device like an electric cooling fan. Hard to know...you may have to try to trace it to see where it goes.

Yellow security is light flashing, battery is charged, hazard light fuse isn't located under the hood for my1990 300zx won't start

If the security light is on then the car thinks someone is trying to steal it. If you can’t make the remote work then you might be able to clear it by disconnecting the Negative battery cable for about 10 minuets

Hi, my battery went flat in my 1990 300zx, i have charged it and put it back in but now my immobiliser won't turn off. I noticed a thin red wire loose near battery but as my brother took battery out for me...

To reset and re-pair the chips in the key and the chip in the ignition lock, your immobilizer you need to do this.

First connect that red wire, or ask your brother. If it is red, it should be connected. It is more likely to be an accessory added at a later date unless it has a proper connector on it.

First you need to fully discharge the system. Disconnect the battery for 2 hours. Hold the negative and positive together for 5 minutes. PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, but not switched on. Connect the positive of the battery, then connect the negative in one clean hit. Wait 15 minutes for everything to reset.

if it starts when you jump it and have a new battery, the altanator is your next step....next time you jump it, leave it run with the lights and accesories on, take off the cables, is it kills the altanator is not doing its job.
