I can't get lights to go on when I open the doors I'm not sure they ever did. But when the car is started, they do go on and off with the doors. It's like they don't get power without the key on. Its frustrating at night to open the door and not be able to see!

you most likely have blown 10amp fuse for tail lights in the fuse box under the hood as far as tha tail lights go. turn your lights on and check your tail lights along with the plate lights. plate lights are on the same fuse as the tail lights. there is a fuse box by the battery which has tail light fuse in it. the lid of the fuse box is showing location of fuse. as far as your interior light goes, make sure that you have the switch in "door" position or it will not come on when door is opened. or just put it into "on" position to see if it comes on. but turn it off or put it back to "door" position/middle seting or your battery will drain down.
either the lights are turned on manually from the headlight/interior light switch, or you have a defective door switch that is telling the module that a door is open, or you have a door that is open, or your module that controls the interior lights is defective. I would start with the simple things, I would make sure all doors are closed. If they are, then check the headlight/interior switch to make sure the interior lights are in the off position, then check all of the door switches. They are simple normally closed push button switches that should be mounted on the car frame near the door hinges.
Hi, viewer. The interior light is powered and controlled by the body control module or BCM. However, there is an on/off button beside the main headlight switch that overrides the interior lighting function. If this button is off, interior lights will not come on regardless of any door being closed or opened.
If this button is on, interior lights will come on whenever a door is opened. If you close all doors, and if the driver door is the last to be closed, the interior lights will stay on for about 30 sec and then the lights goes off automatically. In case you left any door opened too long, the BCM has an internal timer that will shut off the interior lights automatically when it detects that a door is still opened and the allowable time has elapsed. The BCM is programmed this way to protect the battery circuit and functions. : )
the most common issue, is the door switches for interior lights. open doors and spray wd-40 or similar on switch. there may be one that is stuck or bad. to find bad one if need be, just remove switch at door and remove the wires, if lights go out. then that is your bad door switch. work on one door at a time. also be sure dash switch to control interior lights is off. good-luck!!
the switch on the interior light has three positions OFF-DOOR ,I'm not sure of the other one make sure it is in the door position, check your fuses, also check the switch that your door activates to make sure it is not stuck in....hope this helps....cheers
