2001 Pontiac Aztek Rear Psg Tire Thunking Sound

My 01 Aztek does this "thunk thunk thunk" noise when I apply the brake in the psg rear tire area. I've replaced the hub assy (bearing), brake drum, pad, shocks all recently. Any ideas what could be causing this? I love this car, but it's got me boggled!!!

I too am having this problem with my 01 aztek....Ive replaced the hubs with no luck....actually replacing the shoes AGAIN and all the hardware tomorrow to see if that might fix it. If anyone has the answer as so I can stop wasting money by trouble shooting every part until I find it please let me know

After dring long enough to heat up the tires, the insi DE of the hub makes a vclunking or rolling sound and the tire starts to feel like it is wobbling

Check your exhaust make sure a hanger hasn't come loose the pipe might be tight a the back but there might be a loose hangar they just sit in that rubber mount and can easily come out with some wear happened to my 2002 Aztek drove me nuts for a few days

hopefully it is something as simple as this ... Start easy then work yourself to the harder items

Just a thought but is it a new drum ? it could be defective (out of round) or are the shoes seated on the backing plate right or the emergence spreader bar in right way causing shoe to bindif not or shoes are on wrong if it has a primary and secondary shoes .And check to make sure lug nuts are secure and that the rim is not shifting on braking .that ii have seen lots of times

The possibilities are depending on whether you hear the sound in the front or back of the car: You have a broken brake pad in the front or a broken brake shoe in the back; there is a bad wheel bearing that needs to be replaced, there is a flat spot on one of your tires.

Had rear brakes replaced about a month and half, had a thunking noise. took back, said i had tar on tire causing noise. said it would go away, after 3 to 4 weeks got worst, only heard noise when applying...

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Even if you are missing a lug nut it won't make a noise if the rest are tight. I suspect that the problem will be on the wheel bearing. The wheel bearing can be worn out that's why you hear a noise. I suggest that you go for the wheel bearing replacement to resolve the issue.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

When I make a sharp left turn I hear a thunk in the rear axel - tire area and today when I backed up out of a parking stall it made an awful grounding sound from the rear axel (tire area)

Hello,

hard to tell wether it is just a simple stone stuck somewhere in the brakes, or ( sounds more likely ) your bearing may be ready for replacement. In any case, I´d recommend to go to the dealership to be sure it is ok.

Banging

drivetrain components worn or loose.
get under the rav and push up and in/out on the driveshaft (I'm assuming you have 4wd).

OH another thought is the spare tire is loose on the rear door....Mine just about fell off on its own. So we tighten it back down and my thunking noise went away.
