Sounds like you might of blown a head or intake manifold gasket or cracked head. If it sounds like a rollercoaster going up the tracks or tractor sound. it's that. It's expensive repair. My advice if you dont know anyone cheap get another used car until you fix it or whatever your situation is. Also, it idles up and down because of the air escaping from the crack. If engine doesnt hold constant pressurethats whate happens. everything is to the T when working with vehicles. Plus redline dont matter, theres a cut off point, however because of the high rev you could of caused the over rev and blew a gasket or cracked the heads. Especially if you didnt have the proper fluids to keep the temperature down. Good Luck. Been there.

I have a 98 honda LX civic and my check engine light came on. I took it to my MECHANIC and he cant seem to tell me what the miss fire is. he keeps turning it off and it keeps coming on! what should I

A misfire can come from several things. If you have any mechanic ability check the following.

1. Are the plugs and wires new?
2. Does it smoke?
3. Can you smell gas?

While its missing do the following.

1. 1 by 1 grab each fuel injector. A noticeable tick should be felt.

When it gets dark fire it up and pop the hood. Disable the hood light and look for sparks. This could indicate a bad spark plug wire.

Chances are its only one cylinder missing. But in the event i am wrong, Check the coil. Some models have a single coil and others have multiple.

My 1996 honda civic ex overheated this afternoon. I noticed smoke coming out of the hood on the passenger side. I got off of the highway to find a service station but when I stopped at a light the check...

I would check all my hoses, top and bottom radiator hose, and all heater hoses.. check for breaks. Check all clamp connections on hoses. I think this may be just a worn hose that busted. This would not be serious nor expensive. The smoke was probably steam from the overheated coolant. If you stopped it when the light came on ,there should be no additional damage.

Honda civic 2000 problem code PO420

P0420: Calayst system efficiency below threshold (Bank no. 1)
You can clear the code by turning your engine off, locating fuse number 12 in your under hood fuse box (backup, radio 7.5A) and pulling that fuse for about 10 seconds. If the code comes back, it was not a glitch and I would have the code checked out (has to do with you catalytic converter, I believe).
Hope this helps you.

My car is stalling when slowing down or coming to a stop. I think it is a vacuum line. HOw can I get a a diagram for a 1989 Honda Civic DX Hatchback 1.5 motor

Your emission system (including vacuum lines) should be on a diagram on the bottom of the hood of your car. If not, leave a comment, and I will investigate further.
Hope this helps.
