This is the best info I have had. I have not tackled it yet, too cold and windy today. May have to get back with you when I try to change them. Thanks very much

They're pretty much all the same unless they have spark coils mounted on top like may of the foreign cars have.

If the wires have never been off the plug before, then they are going to be very, very, hard to get off.

Grab the boot, and twist to break the "glue" of the boot to plug. Then pull on the boot. Like dealt_soul indicated, DO NOT PULL ON THE WIRE.

Get a hold off the boot part of the wire thats connected to the plug and give it a pull. But do not pull on the wire itself.

Also it will help to had a anti sieze compound to the plug so that the boot will remove easy next time.

Where are the spark plugs located in a 1999 mercury marquis

If it's a 4.6 litre, they are really easy.........just trace the wires from the coil packs on the front left and right of the engine to the holes they plug into.
I always tape my plug socket to my extension so it will not be stuck down in the hole. The plugs are easily accessible.
Every plug I do one at a time.I loosen 3 turns ,remove the extension and socket, and then crank the engine to blow the debris up out of the hole.It doesn't matter if the engine fires ot starts,Just shut it off immediately and remove the plug all the way and replace it right then.
Setting the gap a hair(.004") more than specs will ensure you get the best gas mileage.ONLY .004"...no more than that. don-ohio

Does the car have spark plug wires? i went to purchase some wires but the clerk said my car takes coil packs.. so do that mean i dont need wires for the spark plug tune-up??

So you want to tune it up , but someone has to tell you it has no wires? Have you looked at the engine at all? why do you want to do a tune up? The coils are very problem prone, and you need to use care in replacing the spark plugs, use only Auto-lite or Motorcraft platinum spark plugs, and use a silicone grease in the boots. After you remove the coil, blow compressed air down the tube an dblow out any dirt, before removing the spark plug. Wires are/were never an item for a tune up, unless they were bad. Replace the fuel filter.

Where are the spark plugs located

On these models Ford/Mercury included the coil and the spark plug wires in one unit. The coils are black and round, they have a wire connector to each one. In order to pull the coil, you need to disconnect the wire and remove the bolt holding the coil pack in place. After doing this, you can pull the coil pack out; then you can pull out the spark plug with a 5/8 spark plug socket.

Where are the spark plugs located on this car

The spark plugs are right on top of the engine. In one of those years, Ford eliminated the high tension wires, and gave the spark plugs their own coils. If there are high tension (spark plug) wires, all you have to do to access them is to remove the air baffle that sits on top of the engine. It interferes with removal of the plugs. Then you will also need air to clean out the wells before you remove the plugs. Then use a 5/8" socket to loosen the plugs, and a hand driver with a piece of hose on the end to retrieve, and restart the plugs.
If you do not have spark plug wires, then from what I saw when looking at a 2000 GM, was that the fuel rail went over the top of the spark plug coils. In this event, the fuel rail/injectors would also have to be removed because they are in the way of removing the coils.

hope this helps !!!!!!!
