Re: Does the August 2006 Toyota Corolla have an ECU
The Corolla has an ECU which controls all aspects of the engine performance. There has recently been a recall issued for defective ECU's causing intermittent problems. Check with your local dealer for details, this is a warranty item.

first, there is an open recall for ecu problems on corolla, have your vin run by your toyota dealer to verify, hope you still have your old ecu,a new is around 1,800$ plus reprogram and re-write the vin on new computer, dont know if they will program yours(used) ask if there no other option.
The Toyota Corolla is a subcompact (http://en.allexperts.com/e/s/su/subcompact.htm) / compact car (http://en.allexperts.com/e/c/co/compact_car.htm) produced by Toyota (http://en.allexperts.com/e/t/to/toyota.htm) of Japan (http://en.allexperts.com/e/j/ja/japan.htm), known worldwide for its reliability, conventional engineering and low fuel consumption. In 1997 (http://en.allexperts.com/e/0/1997.htm), the Corolla became the best selling nameplate (http://en.allexperts.com/e/n/na/nameplate.htm) in the world. Toyota has made 30 million cars under the Corolla name since its launch in 1966 (http://en.allexperts.com/e/0/1966.htm), making it the best selling car of all time. Toyota knows about this issue, and a new engine Control Module (ECM) has been developed to rectify this condition. If your car is under 96 months old, and has less than 80,000 miles, the ECM will be replaced FREE by your Toyota dealer. The replacement ECM corrects the shifting issue.
Mention Tech Service Bulletin "TC015-07" when you take it in for service. If you are beyond the time and mileage as listed above, I can give you the part number for the ECU, if you want to purchase one.
