Re: 92 ford ranger 3.0, auto trans will not go into...
Try taking the trannie pan off (drain fluid first) and get a filter kit at the parts store, about 15 or 20 dollars(easy to change) that may help, but this happens to high milage rangers. unless you have a linkage problem thats probably your only hope.

i had the same problame in my 1989 ranger xlt 4x4 i speed shifted a trans that wasent ment to and my trans got stuck in second and wouldent come out had to take it somewhere to get the forks in the trans replaced turns out i bent the forks and it wouldent come out of second
think this is serious like a piston or something ,seek advice of a local mechanic ,because my experiance of autos is limited ,because not many autos in spain and secondly when i have tried to repair i find the spare parts are non exsistant from the dealers ,only an exchange unit complete
No the manual transmisson does not have a stick. on the transmisson their are two plugs. One for draining and one for filling. In order to check the fluid, pull the higher plug out and feel with a finger in that hole for fluid. To set the level to the correct level you would need to drain and refill the trans. If no leaks are present you should be OK
